1. Black Sabbath
2. Pink Floyd
3. Led Zeppelin
not including old school rap this is the definite top 3 for me
4th up to 20th place depends of my mood currently i'd say Metallica and Iron Maiden, not very underground lol

About Jefferson Airplane. they 've risen in ranking after I've deepen every their ablum.
But anyway they're on same level than Elevators for me, 2nd or 3rd it's equal.
About 4th-5th, @Warrior expressed exactly what I wanted to say it , 4th and 5th depends on my mood so I might say Noir Desir, , REM,, Cranberries , Jonestown Brian Massacre depends on the day.
just top 3 is definite 3 for me.

I'm sure you've heard an REM song before, even if you don't recognize the name of the artist. You might have heard Zombie by Cranberries, as well. Their mostly known for their lead vocalist being a crazy feminist and conspiracy theorist, these days. If you've watched The Cable Guy with Jim Carrey, then you've at least heard a karaoke version of Jefferson Airplane's Somebody to Love

The new post didn’t feature those bands though
I don’t think that’s what their lead vocalist is mostly known for at all. She’s known for her voice, and that she passed away earlier this year.
Have never heard about her being a conspiracy theorist

Got her mixed up with Sinead O'Connor. Whoa, I wasn't aware that she was dead.

Robes.
Assuming it’s metal as I don’t know anything about that genre aside from Metallica because we’re cinstantly bombarded with comments about Lars Ulrich being Danish in the media.
Also my list is just Migos on all five spots now

Re: Your top 5 favorite bands
For some names it's not surprising you don't know them.
The Black Angels and Brian Jonestown massacre [active both ,the only one on that list) are main neo-psychedelic rock bands, but well neo-psichedelic rock is "underground" music in 2000s, so I expect It's kind of fringe. Shame, especially about the black angels.
The 13th Floor Elevators are the "parents" of Psychedelic Rock, but they lasted just 2-3 years in 60s....so I think they are not so popular beyond the "psychedelic rock".
Anyway if you 've ever seen High Fidelity movie ( appreciated, such as the book. Written by Nick Hornby, same author than Fever Pitch), you'll listen their song on opening
On the other hand Jefferson Airplane should be a popular group , one of main in 60s . Again psychedelic rock( but San Francisco, not Texas as Elevators) but they song were more popular. yes somebody of love (even if I don't like it much tbh, I mean for me they made best songs. even if it is 2nd popular?) but ESPECIALLY " White Rabbit" (who hasn't ever listened this ? Probably you did it , but you didn't know it was by J.Airplane. It's a masterpiece,.. other than an anthem for the psychedelic rock and that generation..for obvious reasons...) - it was on Stranger Thing 1st episode too. And same for " She has funny cars". - if you've seen series, you'll remember it ( ah I hate when you go on youtube and you find out ppl to say " I am here because of Stranger Things". ignorance, pls). Volunteers was on Forrest Gump too if I remember good etc but there are many songs
honeslty Cranberries were very popular on 90s, so I was surprised when some posters on GL didn't know who was the singer when she died ( moreover they were Irish, the English' neighbours ) Infact it is because of my older sister who had their album
Noir Desir were french band, it was one of first group I've listened . but their top 5 depends on day, I mean when I need to listen L'Homme Presse or Des Armes.
I'ts particular because hardly I appreciate a group not of English language. In fact I don't listen Italian bands even though there is a large production
But as I said top 3 is definite the rest changes it.
I mean, I have just realized to have forgotten The Doors ( lol. can they get top 4 in last moment as did we do against Lazio in May ? ) or Velvet Underground

The fact that Robes likes some French band, I'd believe him.
I really cant find mainstream French music do anything let alone a tune

Migos
Queen
Pink Floyd
U2
Fleetwood Mac
Beatles
Danish bands:
Dizzy Mizz Lizzy
D-A-D
In general not much of a band guy.
Don’t listen to albums by anyone other than Fleetwood mac, Queen and Beatles. All other I’ve got like 5 songs in rotation.

1. Apocalyptica
2. Hevein
3. Eminem
4. Santigold
5. Riot Games / Pentakill / KD/A
Only thing that's changed in the past 10 years are 4 and 5, would've been 30 Seconds to Mars and Le Bask.

Re: Your top 5 favorite bands
Not surprised that most of you have painfully mainstream "artists" as your favorite picks as it is what i see be most likely the case with people.
There are only two artists I am a "fan" of with strong personal attachment, then i have a bunch of artists i really like but who i can't really categorize, in any case...
1. David Bowie
2. Brian Eno
3. Scott Walker
4. Bjork
5. Talking Heads

well that goes hand in hand. the reason most people pick them bands is because they are the most popular and the reason they are the most popular is because more people like them and listen to them.

Re: Your top 5 favorite bands
Cool songs. I should listen a bit more to mid to late 60's psychedelic rock bands, as i imagine they tend to be musically "progressive" by nature, which is what i find stimulating. "Psychedelic culture" is conceptually and aesthetically tied to drug-related experiences, and "progressive" social and philosophical ideals, and so musically, as aptly stated by Wikipedia
"the effects (in psychedelic rock) may be represented via novelty studio tricks, electronic or non-Western instrumentation, disjunctive song structures, and extended instrumental segments."
That is actually how avant-pop and avant-rock can be described, and so for those who like psychedelic rock i recommend the mentioned genres, as the music is still "out there," only that it isn't "constrained" by a specific range of aesthetic.
Here's a video of a late 1960's song by Scott Walker, it sounds psychedelic, but in the case of Walker, he comes from a "Surreal" philosophy, much like David Lynch and his films.
and Listen to this song by U.S. Girls, the album from which it comes from was one of my favorites from last year. Again, this song can be described as "art-pop" but there are psychedelic-like elements to it that make the song dissonant. Most glaringly the singer's voice, the introductory use of her voice as percussion, and the discordant musical progression.

I like some of their singles, but can't say I'm a fan. When it comes to grunge, I'm more of a Soundgarden guy.

Pearl Jam's a pretty good band that makes grunge music, as well. They played in Norway recently. Apparently, the Norwegian crown prince is a fan. I found that pretty surprising. Eddie Vedder looks damn old now.
