Going off what Freeza said on talent though, I hold pretty strongly that Joanna Newsom is probably the most talented overall singer/songwriter active at the moment. You can tell from listening to any interview with her that she's incredibly intelligent as far as music goes in general, and anyhow...nobody does, I guess what you could call "long form" music like Joanna. Her songwriting is brilliant and resembles poetry more than it does lyrics to a typical song. Her song structure is far from typical and have multiple rhyme schemes interwoven throughout the song -- all in ways that, as someone who's never played an instrument past an elementary level and has never studied musical theory -- most definitely escape me. At a base level, she's also an expert harp player, and considering it's something very few people do these days, she could well be the greatest harp player in the world at the moment as well. The fact that she's also managed to incorporate the harp from traditional music into the realm of pop and alternative, mainstream music is quite incredible (note: I'm using pop to denote a difference between traditional/classic music from pop, I'm not insinuating she's a very popular artist like T-Swift or something).

Spoiler:

Rumours is probably my favourite album of all time. At least from a band. They've got three classics imo. Rumours, Fleetwood Mac and Tango in The Night. Incredible band really, Stevie Nicks has such an incredible versatile rock voice.

I'm a metalhead through and through, but in the last 7 years, I have been listening heavily to trailer music as well, not to mention post-rock.
