we have previously discussed how important fullbacks are to the modern game and how having elite ones can make a difference in games.

I think it matters.

are they still looking at Alexis and van dijk?

What I mean by that I don't think the fullbacks magically turn them from 3rd to 1st.

Either other signings make an impact or players already there improve/Pep performs to a higher level as a coach.

FFP was finished years ago iirc. Think it died with blatter. That or it was only implemented for poor clubs.

Anyway paying 80m € or what have you would have been a bit silly. Next year he's got a fixed exit clause of 53m € or something.
Just get him then, if he has continued to be great.

I think it only works in Italy, or more particularly in Roma when they have to sell their players every season for FFP.

Yep, FFP basically only works in Italy at this point. Roma gets shafted every 30th of June. Talent FC also famously underperformed because of it (or something like that hmm

) and like Roma, they had to get 30m in sales by June 30th this year.

But it is useless to make sarcasm , we had incomplete roster on last EL because we couldn't insert signed players as Joao Mario due to FFP and we must still have balanced budget for next 2 years so we can't move in total freedom (it might be a reason for this no mercato tbf) , even if we overcame the settle agreement in this June ( needed to get 30 mln . And well, it's better to get it with Caprari and Banega than selling GOATucci to your rivals IMO. )

Agreed, that's too much money for a kid with one good season under his belt. Though 1) that's what it'll take to shift that fat blob we have in attack 2) striker market is thin with nobody being on the market bar 2 or 3

Striker market is NOT thin. You had one of the top strikers in the market already in your team and you sold him. You could still have gotten Aubameyang for an easy 63m.

We had him but we never keep anyone who wants to leave. Morata wanted to leavr and we facilitated that move for him. We were planning on going in with him and Benz as evidenced by Morata thanking Perez for his understanding. Him moving with most strikers being nabbed have put us in abit of a pickle. Our club does not go for old players so Auba is out of the question. There is Belotti who's available who'll be too expensive to be a back up and maybe the club doesn't rate him enough to become a starter. Then you havs Kane who is not only unavailable but wholly unsuitable for a role as a RM CF. There really isn't anyone else. I am sure we could have gone for Andre Silva now had he not gone to Milan but our hands are tied. It's either spend big on a kid and justify it by calling it a move to cover us for at least a decade or go into the season with a Castilla player as a back up

Belotti would be too expensive to be a backup but Mbappe wouldn't? The kid is about to cost you more than Kaka and Ronaldo combined ffs. Really? Laughing

Ah well, do what you wish. It's not coming out of my pocket. But this *bleep* up the market for sure. Any half decent 18 year old kid who scores in the CL is now going to cost at least 80m. That's the problem with transfers like this. It massively inflates the prices of average players. United did bits with Pogba and now every average fool is costing over 60m (looking at RB Leipzig & Keita for example).

Only silver lining to all this is that Mbappe basically ended Real's interest in Hazard. Which is good for Chelsea.

If he comes for 180mill its to be a starter. Same way if Belotti came for 80mill.

When it comes to inflating the market, Chelsea are the protagonists dropping 50mill on Luiz, ready to offer 50+ for Sandro. Trust me there is more thought put into what we do than premier league clubs spearheaded by City, Chelsea and UTD. If there's anyone who's inflated it, it's the PL and their stupid money starting negotiations at 50mill etc

Hazard is a money wh*re if we had any interest in him he would have posed in a RM shirt trust me
