Arsenal vs Middlesbrough
Arsenal: Arsenal's Santi Cazorla is a doubt after taking a kick against Ludogorets in midweek, while Granit Xhaka (suspended) and Aaron Ramsey (hamstring) are sidelined. The match comes too soon for Olivier Giroud (toe).
Middlesbrough: Middlesbrough captain Grant Leadbitter has returned to full training and could be available in the coming weeks as he builds up his fitness after a hernia operation. James Husband (shoulder) is doubtful while loanee Calum Chambers is ineligible to face his parent club.

Scouting report
MANAGER
Spanish coach Aitor Karanka, who was Jose Mourinho’s assistant manager at Real Madrid, earned promotion last season by drilling his side well without the ball, but also embracing passing midfielders. This approach hasn’t proved so effective in the Premier League, however: after a promising start, Middlesbrough haven’t won in their last six games.
FORMATION
Middlesbrough play a 4-2-3-1 formation, although it’s notable that in the 4-2-3-1 formation, the attacking band of three offer very different options.
Stewart Downing, back at his hometown club, generally collects the ball in deep positions before dribbling forward, and still offers a great crossing threat from the left. On the right, however, Cristhian Stuani is more of a converted forward, and charges forward to become a second striker when Negredo drifts left.
Meanwhile, Gaston Ramirez is a classic South American No 10, capable of magic moments but who sometimes struggles to influence games.
STRENGTHS
Middlesbrough’s possession play is generally very good: the side is well-structured and the midfielders circulate the ball quickly and effectively. However, while they’ve averaged 52 per cent of possession, only Burnley have attempted fewer shots in the Premier League this season.
DANGERMAN
Boro's outstanding performer has been Adam Forshaw, a central midfielder who offers tremendous authority in possession. A calm, methodical passer who is also capable of spreading play with more ambitious balls, Forshaw is the player Arsenal mustn’t allow time and space.
AREAS TO TARGET
Captain George Friend was excellent in Middlesbrough’s promotion campaign but the left-back has found Premier League life much trickier. He’s a proactive defender who makes lots of tackles and interceptions, and Theo Walcott will look to exploit any space in behind him.

Re: Arsenal vs Middlesbrough (16/17)
This is the sort of match we may end up drawing. Boro are quite poor, but they have players who can hurt us if we are not careful. We are usually lethargic after CL or internationals. I am worried we might slip up here.
No cazorla or xhaka so perhaps we might see Elneny-Coquelin. Bit too defensive at home but it can work. No idea if Ramsey is ready to be rushed?
Another option is Oxlade in CM but that might be too attacking.
Just hope we win this because our run of easy games is coming to an end.

Re: Arsenal vs Middlesbrough (16/17)
Come on stop with the doubts. We should be winning this if we're solid at the back.
Middlesbrough being a possession side helps. Meaning we can outscore if it's an open game, which I'm confident in our goalscoring abilities at the moment. Would be more worried if it was a park the bus side.

I hope Santi is fit for this, Boro will play a very defensive game so we will need his creativity from midfield. Coquelin and El Nenny is a no no for these sort of games.

This is so frustrating, every stream I can find - including the legit one I started with - seems really choppy. Don't know why. I hate NBC Sports' streaming.
Would like to see an Elneny screamer today.

Not been good enough so far, need to improve if we are to get anything today. The game is so flat, need to raise it a bit.

Re: Arsenal vs Middlesbrough (16/17)
We're missing Cazorla and Xhaka badly. Not enough penetrative passing from Elneny and Coquelin and the ball keeps going side to side. Walcott having a brainless performance isn't helping the attack either.
The defending has been awful. Traore is giving our defenders a horrible time and they don't know how to deal with it. It's been hesitant and scrappy back there.
This is what I mean about being lucky and not playing as well as our scorelines have suggested. Boro have had 8 shots to our 3, and 3 of those were big chances.

The way we keep giving the ball, Boro are going to get one on the counter.

our attack has been so crap, why do we keep going long when we all we don't have the height. Disappointingly running out of ideas...

Re: Arsenal vs Middlesbrough (16/17)
What a shit display
We seem to have a quota of this type of performance to fill every season. The end product was non-existent. Walcott running with R2 held down all the time and overhitting every pass, Alexis trying to chip across the box and overhitting it, Ozil has seemingly forgotten how to play a through pass, etc.
Boro should have won the game as they made considerably more quality chances than we did and you just know that the moment we come up against a decent attack we're going to be punished. Monreal is poor and needs to dropped. Koscielny for every last-ditch tackle he pulls seems to make twice as many mistakes. The left side of the defence has been weak and we've been vulnerable down that side for too long.
Knew we weren't going to win when we kept trying to play the ball over the top and Boro read it every time. We failed to vary our attack play, kept going for dinked through passes and crosses despite having a height disadvantage and despite Boro playing so deep.
This is why nobody should hype this team. A few deceptive scorelines against average opposition, that can't do shit against a well-organised team because we rely too much on instinct.

Instead of taking advantage of the undeserved wins we achieved in the last few weeks, by improving and finally getting to our best-- we kept going on playing like this. This was bound to happen eventually.

Re: Arsenal vs Middlesbrough (16/17)
Yea that pretty much summed it up.
I actually don't think it would have mattered if Cazorla or xhaka started. We would have done the exact same thing anyways.
This was classic Arsenal which we have been seeing since the days of Gilberto in midfield to denilson in midfield to fabregas in midfield to Coquelin. We are never escaping this. Even during the title winning seasons we had matches where we played like this. But Henry used to rescue us obviously lol.
Anyways we are still in a good position in the league. EFL will help us recollect some of the mana. Wouldn't really advice anyone to be overly frustrate with this result. Expect few more of these along the way.
