We've been too cautious. I was loving the moments when the crowd was urging Can or whomever of our midfielders to get forward when they got the ball. Too much of the 1st half looked like our guys had come on afraid that we might lose. Need to take the game to United with more authority in the 2nd half or we won't win.

It was Can, Art. The crowd was very annoyed with his passing.

Well, Emre was starting his first game and playing the most responsible midfield role, in the middle, I don't blame him for being a bit cautious. But we need to push forward with more determination, we were playing scared in the 1st half.

Well Mourinho didn't come to win the game, He got his tactics spot.

Clean sheet is good but United would have never scored against us if the game went on.

Sturridge is done.

Draw means it's not a disaster, but we all had our hopes higher. We pretty much played better last season when we unluckily lost 0 - 1.

Sturridge is indeed a worry. He simply needs to improve.

Also, Henderson shows his limitations quite badly in a game like this. His inability to dribble leads him to pass backwards or sideways too often, even when not the deepest midfielder on the field. A few times in this game he needed to make a simple dribble, not even to beat a man, but to create a bit of space to play a positive pass, yet he just played a backwards pass.

Karius again looking shaky at times.

Anyway, it's a point and the table's not looking too bad. But there are some questions on the table after this game, about our best XI and formation.

I think one conclusion is that you don't function with Sturridge, and it's time to stop trying.

Another is that you neeed far too much time to play yourself into confidence. That's because your midfielders need to have tailwind to be good, they're not naturals.

And with midfielders, I mean Henderson.

The issue is that Henderson has his limitations. He's very good at a few things and in order to make best use of the things he's good at you have to insulate him with midfielders that bring other elements. That's why the midfield works with Lallana and Wijnaldum. Adding another midfielder in a similar mold to Henderson (Can) but who is even worse, less disciplined, and has a worse touch is just a recipe for disaster.

Realistically speaking, I imagine Ejaria is going to be given more of a role next season but it should be Henderson OR Can, Lallana OR Ejaria (or even Coutinho here) and Wijnaldum OR Grujic. Balance in midfield is of the utmost importance and it showed in a big way this match.

That said United are shit. Their fans are celebrating the draw as though they won some kind of lottery. Whatever.
