I mean he's young. Intelligence as a defender at a top club is developed, not always natural. Look at caramel; he's clearly a smart defender and he still screws up from time to time

I shouldn't probably judge him from this game alone, but Umtiti seems to have blossomed into a rock.

I am very sure he wants to stay, I feel his preference is here for sure.

But I cant get my head around what our financial set up is. On one hand our collective wage bill is said to be outlandishly high, while on the other we claim every player we sign is taking some form of a pay concession.

Then add in we seem to have a lower buy out clause on all players when compared to their Real Madrid counterparts. It goes above my understanding, especially as I have next to no intrest in football finance.

What I do know is we have to keep this guy because he is a very strong defender in his prime who has many tools to his game.

Replacing him with a converted leftwingback (Marcos Alonso) or another young guy (Lenglet) like the news says arent horrible ideas but not ideal either, realistically one of those should be in the squad WITH Umtiti, not in his place.

I was very high on him to the point where his brother started dreaming money. Definitely worlds best defender of the season to that point. But he's been utter trash after that, which reflects badly on his character. He's still young and could be the best defender Barca ever had, but at the same time he could go the same route as Tyson when Robin Givens was introduced to his life. Will be interesting to see how he conducts himself to next season.
