*Transfers Special* Which players should Manchester City buy and sell in the summer?
Gundogan deal looks like it's done and dusted. Obviously Pep likes his 4-1-4-1/4-3-3, so assuming he sticks with that template they still need a DM. Also a LB. Those are the priorities imo.
Going beyond that, I'd say a wide goalscorer such as Reus would be a good addition to support Aguero.

I really would not be even remotely surprised if Pep does something like that or that exact line up. What won't be an even more surprise: he wins the league with that.

They'll need a world-class attacking signing or they'll be battling us for that final EL spot.

That back 4 won't happen, the front 6 might though.

A good point. If they can get Griezmann, that could be the missing piece. They should go all out for Griezmann, actually.

It would be interesting to see Pep go out of his way to sign a player like Griezmann that doesnt fit his traditional concepts too much. He made it work with Muller, but we will see what he decides for city.Art Morte wrote:A good point. If they can get Griezmann, that could be the missing piece. Griezmann not being a winger, and being rather average in 1v1, he plays between the lines so he would have to go with a 3 man defense to accomodate his best role right now

Apparently Pep wants Sane.
Safe to say City wont be a threat next year with all these project signings like Laporte and Sane.Buying them for inflated fees is going to change anyone's mind.
And i'd assume he'd build his midfield around Gundocrock which is another risk.

I wouldn't consider Gundogan to be injury prone. He's had 2 freak injuries. It's not like he's out with niggling injuries every other week.

Re: *Transfers Special* Which players should Manchester City buy and sell in the summer?
City will need a major overhaul. They don't have a good enough team to play Pep's football and win trophies.
City's strengths are in the central areas, so unlike Bayern, I assume he'll build his team around the midfield like he did at Barca.
Judging on who City have been linked with this summer (and are reportedly close to signing), it seems like the base of his team will be built around:
Laporte
Gundogan
Sane
Pep will want a ball-playing sweeper keeper, I don't think Hart fits the bill. Ter Stegen would be the ideal signing, in that case. He could also be bought, considering he might still be Barca's 2nd choice GK next season.
It'll be interesting to see what he does with Otamendi. Otamendi is awful on the ball, but he's quick and is a very good 1v1 defender, which is a strength, considering he'll be playing on a high line.
City will need new fullbacks. I don't think Sagna and Kolarov will cut it
DM is a tricky one. He'll want an intelligent player who is quick at ball distributing, but those are pretty rare. I could see Gundogan being tried there.
Silva could be moved further back and play as part of the midfield 3.
Also, unlike Bayern, he'll be able to switch between using a false 9 and a CF in-game. Aguero and De Bruyne could alternate positions.

Are we talking about genuine CL threat or league threat because if you don't think they are going to be a threat in this garbage league i'll have some of what you are smoking

Re: *Transfers Special* Which players should Manchester City buy and sell in the summer?
Laporte isn't really a project though... he's young but he's been an uncontested starter for 4 years. You don't even start to know what you're doing as a CB until you're 25 usually. So the guys that are good at 20-22 are worth their weight in gold.
I mean look at Marquinhos... everybody was laughing at him 2 years ago but look at him now.

Bit of both
Transition year for them next season
Actually i think Man U have a better chance to win the league next year than City. They have a solid base to build on.
Also looks like Pep is going to revamp his entire defense(including GK) and midfield.Apparently they want Stones on top of Laporte too which would be pretty insane
City are wanting to make too many changes in one season. They might still contend for the title but i dont see them winning it.CL is out of question. We'll see.

lmao If Pep thought Bayern's medical team was incompetent I can't wait to see him working with Crockdogan and Crockgüero in a league with 2 Cup competitions and no winter break.

Gundogan isn't a crock imo He had one bad injury which he struggled to recover from but that aside he's mostly been injury free tbh.
Aguero on the other hand he's in the same boat as Reus tbh.

Lets see how he performs on the pitch.
Their last two big money CB signings have failed spectacularly. They were also very highly rated. If you go through their CB signing history, they've mostly been flops bought for big money.
City are fast acquiring the reputation of becoming the deathbed for centre-backs.
