The matter of the fact is that all sugar daddy money will come to an end sooner or later. It's been made painfully obvious to Chelsea fans. Man City's craziest spending days are behind them. These billionaires get all excited for a while and then they decide it's time to stop wasting money on this particular hobby and that's just a fact.

My apologies, how you framed your initial post seemed to be downplaying the costs of both Mbappe and Neymar, both of which are near World Record fees with wages to match. Both are excellent pieces of business though, I agree and said that above, it's the single two best signings that PSG have made in their era of dominance.

I would argue though that spending 400M on two players isn't all that different than signing 10 players at 40M a piece, it may get downplayed because it's "only" two signings and the two signings happen to be some of the best players playing but I don't see spending wise it being too different than PSG a few seasons ago.

Eventually you do get to a point when hopefully you aren't making 6-7 signings each summer because you're players are sticking around and playing well at that. Best example being Real Madrid 2014- present.

OM was the worst ran club for decades (not to mention corrupt) while Lyon is... well Lyon. There's no backing for Lyon other than in Lyon. Paris and Marseille have international appeal and followings.

OM can't compete until they control their own stadium, which they're working on. It's going to take some time to unwind all the sins of the last 20 years. After that, they can compete with PSG if they want to. Depends on the owner's ambition and risk appetite.

lol sports you're very optimistic. Marseille can't compete with PSG in terms of spending power. They are like on two different planets and the Paris-based club is exponentially richer.

PSG will continue to reign supreme in France unless an equally rich owner take over another French club; which is highly unlikely.

PSG are trying to be every bit of a sugar daddy as they can but FFP is not permitting them beyond certain limits. Heck, they wouldnt even be spending 400M on Neymar and Mbappe if not for the 200M state sponsored deal. As for City for that matter but atleast in their case, they make massive money off TV revenues from EPL so that sort of balances their excessive spending. No matter what, spending 300M in a single window is not exactly normal.

Its not that they dont want to pump money, rather they are not allowed to beyond a certain degree.

That's false. Bernard Tapie completely outspent everyone, and still made a profit, when he was president of OM. Won the CL once and made the semis a couple more times in his tenure. He was forced to sell due to a match fixing scandal. Robert Louis-Dreyfus bought the club and had ambitions to spend a TON... but he died prematurely and his wife didn't give a shit about football. Club went down the toilet until Mc Court bought them recently. But in that time, it was run like pub club and all the main revenue sources were given away in a more than corrupt manner.

I know OM history. Stick to Juve.

That's again false. FFP took a 60% discount on that deal years ago (which got them a transfer ban for a summer) and they've reported it at market value since.

PSG had 529 million Euros in revenue for 2017. That's actually expected to hit 650+ on 2018. They make a ton on money, whether you like it or not.

He wasn't a sugar daddy you numpty. He didn't just throw money at the football club. He's a french industrialist. He made a massive amount of money with OM. He had a business model and it worked for him.

The marketing impact from his OM exposure on his other businesses put him in the billionaire category.

Every wealthy owner is a sugar daddy according to your definition then... including the Agnelli family.

He seems out of control moreso at Barca. But that's because he has to force himself to slow down to play at the club's pace. Also, Dortmund were more about playing the ball in space as opposed to at the feet...

These are really big adjustments. Always been a high risk taking player... be was reasonably clean doing it. Should get a lot cleaner as he figures out the way Barca play.

Because aside from that he barely made any bad decisions or turned the ball over.

Oh and btw Messi has 100s of turnovers and bad decisions every season, as do every forward who try to make things happen while the rest stand around looking at the floor.

Ok so turnovers are standard with any player that dribbles a lot, that's just the nature of a player of that ilk. Messi himself had some proper turnovers till he became extremely efficient in how he ran at players.

It's not that they are constantly wrong decisions and it's certainly not hundreds (I accept a bit of hyperbole may have been used) but he does have iffy moments. I know Mole and Lucy would disagree but today was no different than any other matchday.

But as Firenze mentioned, kinda difficult to criticize a player who is scoring consistently. Also, without Dembele, Barcelona's attack is a bit...boring.
