Don't call me James wrote:Kings of Summer is amazing. I definitely recommend that. Also The Way Way Back with Steve Carell and Sam Rockwell. They both have that sappy coming of age type feeling like in Into The Wild.
Dom have you seen Inside Llewyn Davis? Feel like it's a movie you would love.
Kings of summer is crap. Pretentious film that tried too hard to be the next Into the Wild.

Seeing the male list, quite the selection, Elba, Cumberbatch, Hardy, etc 8/10

Meh there's some good ones, if you are talking attractive and good ones then maybe as a lot of the good English actresses are probably a bit older.
Get the feeling you are hating because of Emilia Clarke tbh

How the hell is that movie pretentious
It doesn't try to be smart and self important at all. It just tells a story about kids.

Would be great if any of you would actually state what was pretentious about it. Didn't seem that way too me at all. If anything Into The Wild felt like the more pretentious film, where as Kings of Summer was very straight forward. It didn't try to make any grand points or statements really. Don't know how you can call something so straight forward pompous or pretentious.

I haven't seen Kings of Summer but Into the Wild is fairly pretentious imo, as is the main character, who the story follows around.
That doesn't mean it's not a great film that I love...I really enjoy Into the Wild and I think it's a great film, but it is a bit pretentious, definitely.

Re: The Movie House - Part 7
Also regarding British and Irish actors, they're by far the best in the world. It's not even close, at least in the early stages of their careers. There's a reason there's so many of them coming up. They're all basically professionally trained, where as a lot of the American actors are autodidact and former models etc. It's much easier to transition from theatre to film than modelling to film. All the new stars basically have professional training, even a lot of American ones. Oscar Isaac and Chastain are both clasically trained from Juliard. The British and Irish actors are all from the stage basically.
The classic American type actor is someone like Channing Tatum. Started off as a very good looking fellow, was not good at all. Then he got his training by getting work. Now he's a really great actor in his own right.
The typical British actor would be someone like Fassbender or Tom Hardy, who are both classically trained.
Those are very broad generalizations, but I think there's enough evidence to show a trend.

Straightforward ?? Like seriously ?? That film was over the top like f. Felt like a big collage of cliches and bad acting. And it wasnt believable one bit, at least the way it was shown.
Barring the really good visuals, i felt really annoyed after watching the film. Yet another film where IMDb fcks you up.
Dont even want to comment on the notion that Into the wild is pretentious. It simply isnt.
Yea may be they could have cast better actors in the film, i dunno. Kristen Stewart!

Re: The Movie House - Part 7
Still no examples of how it was pretentious. And yes, it was extremely straightforward. I've seen it 4 times now. It's 3 immature kids running away from home and the lead character and his dad dealing with sorrow. Just so pretentious.
You talk about how you hate cliches. Then you turn yourself into the biggest cliché. You say Kristen Stewart is not good. She's a great actress. It's not really a question anymore so I'd suggest you actually watch more of her.

Re: The Movie House - Part 7
I watched The Hateful 8 when it was at the cinema and it was great fun . I really enjoyed myself , been a while i had such a good time with a movie at the cinema . Recently i saw it a 2nd time , didn't have much to do one night so i thought why not. I am not sure what is that i missed / didn't appreciate as much the first time , or if this is a film that grows on you the more times you watch it .. but i saw it another 2 times the following days
I fkn love The Hateful 8 . I love every single second there is in it , everything . Wish it was 10 hours more .
If you saw it once , and you thought maybe it's not as good as you wanted it to be from a Tarantino film .. i encourage you to watch it again .
I wish Tarantino makes another 10 movies in the western genre .. it cannot be that he has 2 movies to make yet . I refuse to believe it . The world NEEDS more western movies from Tarantino (and frankly moar Tarantino) .

I'll side with Freeza and CB in this argument. Into the Wild way more pretentious than Kings of Summer if we want to argue this.

It's not even that I don't accept their opinion on not liking the movie. I can understand people not liking a movie. But I don't think anyone has looked up the word pretentious.
