Makes me wonder what direction this show will go in considering what happens (allegedly if you believe the myths) to Ragnar historically.
Yep I'm really curious in what direction will the show go from now on as well.
- Spoiler:
I guess Ragnar will eventually get beaten by the 'disease' that's bothering him for a while now and Bjorn will take over as the king and then he'll sail with Floki to the Mediterranean Sea. Earlier in the season I thought Ragnar would still be going strong around the last episode and try to get to Asia with that Chinese girl but then he killed her and all that thinking of mine went out the window.
I don't know the story of the historical persona Ragnar Lodbrok, so I can't say whether the show's Ragnar fate is in line with the actual historical facts. Can you enlighten me on that matter if possible?
Here ya go.
- Spoiler:
Well the most common (perhaps dramatic) and popular legend says that Ragnar meets his end by getting captured by King Aella of Northumbria, who then executes him by throwing him into a pit full of snakes. When they learn of this, just about all of Ragnar's sons form a great army, known as the "The Great Heathen Army". This army then raids England, defeating 3 of the 4 major Kingdoms (Wessex being that lone kingdom that forces them into negotiations for peace). After defeating Northumbria, legend has it that Ragnar's sons executed King Aella using the blood eagle as revenge for his death.
The other (and perhaps more conventional means of death) is that he died of the original wounds he sustained in the first raid on Paris. His failure to recover from those wounds along with a bout of cholera did him in. Obviously the less sexy version of his death, but had he actually lived (it's never been proven that he existed) this is probably the way he went out.
- Spoiler:
- Oh yeah, thanks.
I guess for the sake of the show they'll stick with the first version, obviously not word for word as those familiar with Lodbrok's story would know what happens next all along...
I'm so excited for the remaining 10 episodes, it's my favourite show of those currently on (yeah, it suprasses even GoT when it comes to my preferences these days).
I mean, the acting is so brilliant. Floki's and Ragnar's characters are played by such highly talented actors it's an unbelieveable pleasure to see them on a big screen. I just cant get enough of 'em.

I think GOT is still the overall better production in terms of scale and world-building. It's earlier seasons were simply the best TV I have ever seen although I don't really feel super comfortable comparing it to Vikings given they don't have the same resources and lack of restrictions, but I'm a history buff so Vikings had me hooked from the beginning. Taking a historical character like Ragnar (who we're not even sure existed) and building up his legend into an epic show the way Michael Hirst (the showrunner) and team has done is simply fantastic. It's a different beast from high fantasy like GOT. I also was already familiar with Michael Hirst's work as he created the Tudors as well as the Borgias, which I also loved quite a bit. Highly recommend both if you haven't seen them.
Can you imagine what Vikings would be if it were on HBO or Showtime? I honestly don't see it as much different from what it is now...just more graphic sex scenes and language. The fact that it doesn't have either to the extent of GOT yet still is considered among TV's best shows is a victory within in itself. Both are awesome shows with not just brilliant actors, but brilliant show runners as well.
Agreed on the acting. As far as broadcast TV goes, it's been top notch. Only reason why it or they have not won Emmys perhaps comes down to the network not really being known for producing Emmy contenders for scripted series. Floki has personally been my favorite character (Ecbert is also up there too) throughout the show. Gustaf comes from a pretty famous Swedish acting family as well. I liked Ragnar a lot more in earlier seasons, but Fimmel still brings such a strong and even ethereal presence to him even in the latter ones that I'm totally ok with it.
Perhaps the brightest lights in this show go to the female characters and actresses as well though, from Siggi back in the beginning of the show to Lagertha and Aslaug, to Gisele, Helga and Torvi in the current season. Strong performances all around from them as they are every bit the match for the men in a period where it was much harder than it is now.

Luther series 4 was really bad...barely watchable is the highest praise I can give. I don't know why they made this season.

Superb time management and multi-tasking skills while not at work
. I actually used to not have time for this many shows, but I've been cutting my hours back.
I usually just wait until the weekend to watch a lot of my shows since I'm usually out and about doing stuff throughout the week.

That's nice but I'm still hoping someone (HBO) has the balls to adapt Malazan.

Malazan will not be adapted anytime soon, the scope, budget and cast would be too tremendous

Ehh it's possible. Right Studio, Right Showrunners, Right time = Malazan adaptation.

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 4
There is no budget in the realm of possibility that can do Malazan justice, unless you dumb down the story and remove 5-6 huge battles, M99 mentioned this before but the story basically starts with the seige of Pale

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 4
Malazan show would suck. No thanks. Seasons would cost 1 billion (slightly inflated but you get my point) and I'm not convinced even with current CGI you could get it to the point it wasn't underwhelming.

New Series coming for 2016/17:
The CW
CBS
ABC
FOX
NBC
I think they'll be doing more for other networks, but this is what's been released so far.
