Re: The Official Winter Transfer Rumours Thread
If Wenger doesnt sign any strike before transfer window close then we are in big trouble. A striker is a must and if he cant see that then he has lost it.

No idea why any Arsenal fan would want him tbh, that's Scott Dann and Samba level stuff.
Not sure if it's quite bottom of the barrel stuff like that, but it can't just be Benzema or nothing. We need to sign a striker. Someone. Anyone. I don't really "want" him but I want nothing even less lol
I'd rather have nothing than someone who quite clearly isn't good enough long term imo.

Re: The Official Winter Transfer Rumours Thread
I don't believe for one second that Wenger "doesn't see" the need for a striker. He only wants what he feels would be an improvement over what he has; he doesn't want a Chamakh.
The danger here is giving too much attention to the short-term. We don't want to bloat the squad with average players because we know full well how difficult it can be to move those players on.
The options aren't great, even as a stop-gap solution. Llorente doesn't give you anything different to Giroud, Austin is a penalty box player and would struggle in our set-up, likewise Hernandez, Berahino is a better fit but has had one good season and would be very expensive... and I'm not sure who else we could get at this late stage.

With Mole, Sina and Jay.
What is this shit mentality of just "wanting" someone no matter who it is. It looks desperate, and we are not desperate. We guys complain about Giroud not being PL winning striker quality, do you think someone like Austin is?
We don't want to end up with another Park that just comes and sits on the bench.

I'm 100% sure that was Wenger doing Monaco a big favour. There's no way there was any football reasons for that signing.
Anyway, Akpom could beast it at Hull and come back ready to explode for us, for all we know.

We don't have a year to wait around for him to mature.
Austin has had a very good scoring record everywhere he's played but that's still asking a bit much of a QPR star to lead us to the title. Sanogo also has, as Wenger called it, a 'scary' goal tally outside of his Arsenal apps.
I wouldn't mind signing a player who isn't a clear upgrade but is at least different to what we currently have. A striker with mobility would be nice.

Go ahead and name the forwards we can buy then. Nobody's saying we don't need a forward, but there has to be acknowledgment that it's not an area of the market that's bursting with quality.

Indeed.
There is exactly one. Zlatan.
Everyone else is not worth it.

Re: The Official Winter Transfer Rumours Thread
That's beside the point, we need a striker so we have to get the best on the market since we have the money. Anything else makes no sense.
Internal solutions or whatever crap Wenger is serving us, I don't believe it. Walcott was in the form of his life before getting benched by Giroud for no reason and Akpom was promised to be included in our squad before being shipped off to Hull City. I supported both (and Welbeck aswell) to become our starting striker but clearly Wenger won't be persuased unless it's a new signing.
If you want a name, Gonzalo Higuain, he has a release clause, we have the money, better than all our strikers and he would be interested to join us. Sign him and we have considerably improved our squad.

Re: The Official Winter Transfer Rumours Thread
Wasn't the jury out not so long ago that Higuain won't be a 'considerable' improvement on Giroud, if at all.
It's clear the kneejerking here in some of us.

The same people that think Diego Costa is not good enough for Arsenal.

Sure, he could be an option.
This is pointless though, Wenger doesn't seem to think we need a striker, he said it just recently.
