Signed Manquillo and Lass... not bad really. Lass is good cover and Manquillo has potential if he's allowed to grow (which he will be allowed here).

Bielsa plays a very particular system where he pushed up the fullbacks a lost and then has two DMs to back them up... so really, it's all about wingbacks with great workrate as opposed to the traditional fullback. Mendy and Dja Dje Dje are not very good defensively either but they can really attack and cross the ball, which is what Bielsa wants primarily.

Instead of have CMs jump in to the attack, he pushes up both fullbacks. It's unusual.

Talented, but mostly very young.  Bielsa is recruiting a bunch of Argentinians so i expect 2-3 to join in the next month.

Thanks! Didn't Bielsa reach Europa League final with a very young Bilbao side? :coffee:

I did some research and the players you mentioned in your post make up a squad with some interesting players.

I like Thauvin and Ocampos (heard of them in the past, but I only saw Ocampos a few times) because they know how to dribble and they can create danger from nothing and that Alessandrini, I've watched some materials with him and like him. Brutal shooting (insists with long rangers), very good at passing balls through opposite defenses and also more than decent at crossing.

I still have to watch them more often to form a better opinion about them.

Except Mandanda and Nkoulou, I don't know the others from defense and midfield.

However, I have now a better idea about what's going on with OM.

Good luck to him. Hopefully, he leaves all the bad luck and sorrows behind on English shores and gets a fresh and wonderful start in France.

Manquillo may struggle initially with Bielsa's system. He's somewhat hessitant to push forward and tends to play "safe" balls when doing so or simply cross it into the box (not the best solution when you have a smaller striker like Batshuayi). This is really the only excuse for why Rodgers binned him. Otherwise, he was a solid RB, and I would personally have preferred that he stayed at Liverpool. He simply didn't fulfill the attacking requirements Rodgers demanded, though he certainly had the workrate. Hopefully he gets the time to acclimate and adjust at Marseilles. If given the chance, I think he can turn into a very good well-rounded fullback.

I'm personally curious to see how Thauvin and Batshuayi develop this season. I remember a fair amount of hype around Thauvin a few seasons back, and Batshuayi has something of a cult following. Unfortunately for Marseilles, I could see both moving on should they have a good enough season.

Batshuayi is going to be a monster IF he develops. He does only a few things but very well last season... he needs to do more. Every Belgian CF seems to have this problem tbh.

As far as Thauvin... very disappointed. Granted, his best position was the one filled first by Valbuena and then Payet. So he never got the change to show his real stuff. He's not fast enough to be winger, which is where he was played. No excuses this season.

There's apparently 3 more players coming lol.

We're going to be about the same.... Gomis and Njie are about to sign. With Alessandrini and Cabella, that's a pretty good attacking 4.

Defense and goalkeeping should be the same too. We have some talent there.

But the midfield is bad right now. Bouna Sarr and Diaby are the only 2 proper CMs that we have Laughing We really need to get some bodies here or it will get ugly.

Marseille will put in a £10m bid for Crystal Palace midfielder Yohan Cabaye. (Source: Guardian)

Payet and Cabaye...

Not a bad start from the new owners

Sanson, who they got, is the real quality signing over the winter.

Need defenders badly too.

We were linked with Sanson during the height of our French obsession lol, was wondering if he was going to make a move.

Garcia's style of play emphasizes possession and technique in the middle.  Sanson, Payet and Cabaye make a lot of sense given that.

Sanson is only 22 and has been consistently good which is why I like that signing.

But our defenders just aren't very good.
