This is their team

Danilo - Bruno Martins Indi - Casemiro (from real madrid) - Quaresma - Yacine Brahimi - Jackson Martínez - Quintero - Cristian Tello (From barcelona) - Diego Reyes - Héctor Herrera - Adrián López - Alex Sandro - Óliver Torres (from Atletico Madrid) -

and Vincent Aboubakar ?

IN
Adrián - 11M (60%)
Martins Indi - 7,7M
Aboubakar - 3M (30%)
Brahimi - 1.5M (20%)
Tello - 2M (two year loan fee)
A. Fernandez - 1,6M
Casemiro - 1,5M (one year loan fee)
Evandro - 35% of our player Tozé's rights and a two year loan contract to Estoril
Marcano - Undisclosed fee

Total = 28,3M

OUT
Mangala - 30,5M
Iturbe - 7,5M (50% of 15M)
Fernando - 7,5M (50% of 15M. Allegedly only received half of the total transfer fee because that was the deal we struck when Fernando renewed his contract instead of leaving on a free transfer)
Defour - 3M (50% of 6M)
Castro - 3,5M
James Rodriguez - 1,2M (1,5% of 80M)

Total: 53,2M

53,2M - 28,3M = (+) 24,9M

They are gonna have a deep impressive run in CL this time

Yeh they've signed some good replacements. All of them will end up going for €20m+ in a few years time imo.

They had the players for an impressive run last year, but the coaching was bad and the players didnt perform.

I am not sure this squad is better. I dont know if BMI will perform like Mangala and I have even less belief that Casemiro will replace Fernando as well.

But there are defiantly more attacking options with Torres, Adrian and Tello. Think the likes of Eduardo, Quintero, Reyes and Herrera will be more important than last season. Herrera perhaps being the under the radar best player in the team.

Coach looks 100% better already than last year so thats good.

Tello started first league game. Quintero was also on the bench.

Away to Lille it was;

Fabiano
Danilo - Maicon - Martins - Sandro
Herrera - Casemiro - Rúben Neves
Oliver Torres - Martinez - Brahimi

Weekend vs Pacos

Ricardo in for Danilo (might of been suspended, not sure)
Evandro in for Herrera (rested)
Adrian in for Oliver.
Tello in for Brahimi

Quintero isnt a starter just yet, might not be for a while.

How did it come to 17 year old Neves taking place before him...He recovered a while ago and was good when on.

Quintero seems to attack minded for the CM position of a 433. I think he should be converted to a forward really.

If you want him in your midfield, it should probably be as a 10 with two players behind him at all times.

Coach is from Spanish u19 side, so I am sure he has alot of belief in young players. Which explains starting Torres and Neves so early in the season.

End of last season, yes. But to start this one, not yet.

Still early though, gotta see how Tello, Oliver and Brahimi settle.

Hope not, otherwise they stuck with Opare lol

Varela looks like he is off, after half a decade of service.

Only been 2 games, I only watched 1 (vs Paco) so I withhold judgement. I didnt really see him all that much for Madrid either, less than 5 games for sure.

Ill reserve judgement for now. I do worry about replacing Fernando though, minus the cards he was reliable as it gets as a holding mid or even b2b when he moved up.

I also know very little about this Aboubakar. But I have alot of belief in Porto strikers going back from Jackson, Falcao, Li-Lo, Derlei, McCarthy...hell even Postiga was relatively good for Porto Laughing

Not very surprised that Porto have assembled such a good team. Over the years, they have always seem to complete a number of coups . I have always regarded them as one of the few football teams that are actually managed coherently and effectively in terms of transfers .

As premature as this is, I am already impressed by their early performances and expect great things from them this season domestically and on an intercontinental basis. Smile I can't wait to see more of this team and especially the fledgling Ruben Neves.

Casemiro can become really good. Hopefully he gets there with this team and then he can take over Khedira's spot when he leaves...

I wonder why don't/haven't they diversify their sources. Their main source is South America, but they can source lots of players from Eastern Europe and Africa too.

They have better knowledge of the players would be my guess. Plus they have built relationships with various clubs out there, probably various agents and seem fine with 3rd party ownership also.

The way they work, the player has to integrate quickly as he might easily be gone in a year, so language is important as it speeds up integration. Spanish speakers can quickly understand Portuguese with little difficulty so it is easy to instruct them and the Brazilians speak Portuguese, at least close enough.Very Happy

But yes, that is one impressive team.
