Pogba was pretty good in the world cup, as well. I suppose it's easier when it's just a single-digit number of matches against teams that, more often than not, don't have the organization that club teams have, and you're super motivated to make the most of it.

Being good in the World Cup for me is almost a completely irrelevant indicator for how a player will perform on club level.

Too many players have been bought from clubs from the post WC sheen and ended up flopping throughout their career after being valued on a small stint of International football, and that being a level literally 1 whole step below club football.

I know football purists love to glorify the World Cup and all but we all know Champions League not only is significantly above it in terms of quality and the level it is at and has been for well over a decade now.

Thibaut on the other hand has not compared to his other Atletico goalkeeper counterparts in the form of De Gea and the highly overlooked Oblak.

Problem with him is, standing at 6'6 he has that look of those tall goalkeepers similar to Buffon that are immobile but make up for it in their reading and positioning but he does not truly have that trait and relies on reflexes and reacting with a body too ungainly for the saves he attempts.

Not to mention he is relatively average on the ball.

He can and will improve and is touted for a reason but Courtois I feel should play more to his strengths rather than what he is not, similar to what Joe Hart did and ultimately failed in his now defunct career.

Real Madrid fans do indeed have a right to dislike him as they do given he is a former Atletico Madrid player and that his name alone shafted out what was a beloved 3 time CL winning Keylor Navas, at the drop of Florentino's....uh..hat.

So dare I say it some may have wanted Courtois to fail, just not at the expense of Madrid as he clearly has proven to do so.

Well, I can't speak for all Madrid fans, but I can assure you I don't dislike him because he replaced Keylor or for his Atlético past. I simply dislike him because he sucks.

I wouldn't mind replacing Keylor for a better goalkeeper. What I do mind is replacing him for a far less talented one.

Courtois is simply terrible, that's all there is to it.

For Tibu to work you'd need a perfect defence and we'll never have that given how we play. He needs a team like Atleti not Real

Yet another game where 1 shot=1 goal. He has now conceded more goals than shots he has saved, 11 to 12. Terrible player. Inspires absolutely no confidence whatsoever. Players kicking eachother just to clear a ball from his area. God what have we done to deserve him

That's what's so depressing about the whole situation. We had a keeper who was amazing and brought another young keeper who could take over but then bam, Perez makes his worst purchase since Kaka and here we are conceding goals from every god damn shots we receive

You keep making Navas out to be the greatest GK in the world when he was a good keeper that occasionally had flaws and was getting up there in years!

Flo obviously has made the wrong choice in replacement, thanks I believe to Nick’s propaganda, but there is no doubt in mind that Navas had to be replaced. I still believe the two chosen before Courtois would have worked out, but for a failed fax or Zidane refusing to bring a solution in mid season!

The young replacement you are talking about still isn’t anywhere close to be a solution. He’s now with his second team near bottom of liga and can’t earn the starter job?

To me, Courtois is just one of several mistakes on club that both Flo and Zidane are accountable for. This season is another lost season and the only good it will do is expose Zidane and get his sorry ass (and his nepotism) out of Madrid.

Thibu is not at fault stop trying to scapegoat him, when retarded ass ordi keeps back peddling and giving these attackers all the time and space to shoot.

The team concedes the same type of goals regardless of keeper/defenders, the midfield struggles to create regardless of combination and the attack struggle to score for similar reasons, the team work is trash cause Madrid celebrate a selfish glory Hunter for 10 years lying to themselves, and always scapegoating team oriented players.

Navas wasn't great by no means, it's just that Thibuu is so fucking awful he'd make my local keeper from Thunder FC look world class

yep. At least wait until he has a season-long solid performance then we can talk. Don't just bump the thread every time his gloves touch the ball for god's sake.

A couple decent performances won't and shouldn't erase the horrible display and mistakes he had made prior to that.

Happy for his saves, but he still has a lot of catching up to do before we can confidently say that he's improved.
