Hopefully Arsenal don't pip us. He is young, french, talented & cheap; OMG it's Wenger written all over him.

This. ^
Especially considering they just lost their starting LB in Clichy.
Speaking of which... Are Zabaleta or Kolarov being shopped around by Man City, or are they just going to sit on the players since they can afford the wages?

Re: Summer Silly Season: Official Thread
Is there still work to be done, though?
It's difficult to say. I'm sure there will be players going out because some players would like to play more and have more minutes. We will probably have a few loans as well, players who we would like them to develop, into the Championship or the leagues abroad. In terms of players coming in, it's difficult to say. I think we are going to sit down, look at the situation, see where we are, see who might leave and then we will reassess later. But we have done most of what we wanted to do.

All right, sounds like it's gonna be one signing tops and that's it.
I'll be surprised if we don't buy an LB, though.

Re: Summer Silly Season: Official Thread
I would kill Comolli if we dont buy a LB which is more important than any other position we have signed. Also we need cover for Downing in the wings.I think what he meant is we wont make too many big signings more now.
I think we will sign a LB and couple 2/3 squad players depending on players shifted.I mean if Ngog isnt shifted no point in signing a striker.

I think we've got enough squad players. I'm anticipating only a left-back signing now. Gotta feeling Comolli means what he's saying there.

^^ Hummels is not just good but God.probably the best signing we could make for years but absolutely have no chance.
He just signed a new contract at BVB removing the clause in his contract. If he wanted to move he wouldn't have signed the contract he wants to stay BVB wouldnt sell him anytime soon.

Cissokho near Liverpool
Aly Cissokho could leave Lyon for Liverpool in the coming days, according to Le Parisien. The two clubs are all close to an agreement around 10 million euros. The French international commit age 23 for four seasons with the Reds.
No idea how credible Le Parisien though.

fantastic!
Le Parisien is a very serious big newspaper (and its not only a sport newpaper, but more like a general one: political, economical.....)
so really, if 1st FranceFootball, then Lequipe & now Le Parisien all reported that we are in for him and close, i think we should be pretty cinfident now : ) (unless a major surprise happens)
and for only 10mil € !!

yah but the source is still Le Parisien.
as you can see Lequipe (and all the others newspapers reporting if today) are saying "according to Le Parisien" and reporting the exact same things (close to sign, 10mil€, 4yrs deal).

^^ Ya i suppose. What is surprising me most is the price tag.10mil for cissokho would be one of the biggest steal we have done in years.I mean Juventus just paid 12mil for Lichtsteiner iirc.
Hope Le Parisien is true though.

I'll just add that we don't need another CB.

Re: Summer Silly Season: Official Thread
If we manage to get Cissokho for the 7.2 mil (pounds) that is being reported by Goal.com, I will be ecstatic. I think he is the best option for the LB position left on the market.
I'm no longer certain that a CB is a priority at all. It seems more like Comolli is willing to pursue an opportunity for a good CB if the opportunity arises, but is not looking to go out and attract one. Perhaps the feeling is that we have enough incoming youngsters and outgoing legends/squad players to cover the position.
Think about it; we have Carragher, Skrtel and Agger who have all been starting 11 quality since Hodgson left (and when they were fit). Sure Carra's best seasons are behind him, but he can still contribute quite a bit. Kyrgiakos can be shaky, but he is still capable of contributing to the back line in a covering situation. When you add to that Danny Wilson and Martin Kelly (19 and 20, respectively), you get more cover than would expect after only a cursory glance at the team sheet. Wilson only played 2 last season and I beleive they were both out of position as a LB. Kelly impressed as a RB, but he can also play CB and could stand a run out at that position. We have to assume that Glen Johnson will be retaking his position on the right if Cissokho moves to Anfield. So, let's give Kelly a go at CB. He certainly has the size and strength to play the position, and his ball skills are a definite advantage.
What I'm saying is that while a new starting-quality CB could help the team, the signing would hurt the development of what could be a very good class of young defenders. I have the sense that LFC is stuck in a bit of a middle-ground between signing new players to replace starters and allowing academy players to step up. We've shown quality in the youth players, but perhaps not enough for automatic selection into the first-team. They have the potential, but not quite the quality just yet. It's an interesting quandary to be faced with.
