Neymar, Aguero, Sanchez and Suarez are the only one that can break the duopoly. Depends on their club's success though. Aguero is the likeliest.

Didn't mean actually the duopoly, but being top 2 player 8 consecutive seasons.

- What the Ballon d'Or would have looked like if it had never been merged with the FPOTY award:

It might be beaten because this new format favors fame over achievements. Notice how in 2010 Sneijder would have won and in 2013 Ribery if only the media vote were to be counted, which is what counted for the original Ballon d'Or.

No I don't think so.
8 years+
It doesn't even matter if either of the two don't win a trophy all they need to do is keep scoring.
The way the Ballon d'or voting is that, its essentially a popularity contest. Those 2 are way too marketed, only Neymar comes close.
Say Aguero wins the BPL + champions league, I still think Messi or Ronaldo takes it. It'll take injury or god forbid something worse to break it, otherwise I can see 8 become 10 before a change.
edit: Well I got that question wrong

To BCs post. The real Ballon D'or want a popularity contest. This has turned into a farce.

Media today is a farce, the online fight for fanbase's and money clicks has destroyed the validity of media. That's why current method is easily better, than what media alone would be. It maybe worked then, but it doesn't work anymore.jibers wrote:Harmonica wrote:For what?

No chance. The journalists usually pick the right players as they showed in the UEFA best player in Europe which uses the older Ballon D'or format of European journalists. An award handed out annually rather than seasonally with respect to Europe makes 0 sense anyways. The person that finished strongest wins ala CR in 2013.

Now you are just comparing two different things, UEFA-award consist UEFA competitions like Euro, which half the players don't even play. 4 Germans in front of Messi in 13-14? What a farce that was.jibers wrote:Harmonica wrote:Media today is a farce, the online fight for fanbase's and money clicks has destroyed the validity of media. Fifa Ballon d'Or consist of everything there is and has much larger sampling. So it's the trophy.

TBH individual trophies in a team sport is pretty daft. Never really believed in a best player.Harmonica wrote:Now you are just comparing two different things, UEFA-award consist UEFA competitions like Euro, which half the players don't even play. 4 Germans in front of Messi in 13-14? FIFA loves Barca and Madrid too much. God it stretches to the point of ridiculousness. Just look at the Team of the Year for the last 5-7 years. Unbelievable.

"ever" is not so long if you take into account global warming and the looming threat of nuclear warfare. Mosquitoes, rats and cockroaches don't play football. Yet.

The team of the year is voted on by players, can't really say its FIFA

Though it is ridiculous.
