Liverpool v Basel
I just want to get this thread started, it's such a huge game. A game that will decide whether we qualify from our group, a game that we really should win.
The bad news are that we're playing bad, totally failing to be an attacking threat. When's the last time teams have had such an easy time defending against us at Anfield? Furthermore, we played pretty much our strongest XI today against Sunderland, so no really fresh legs going into this match.
However, it's at Anfield, it's a do-or-die game, it's a Champions League game after years of absence, I'm full of belief that we will grind out a win here. I'm also nervous, but I do believe. It's time for this team - and the manager - to dig in deep and show what it can do when under pressure.

Re: Liverpool v Basel
Do or die. Either we progress of we become the laughing stock. Even worse if Ludo get a point against a weak Madrid team ( i know there is a near 0% chance of that happening)
Our strikers are wank, They cant score for shite. Basel come needing only a draw and we need to score to win. Its going to be a horrible 90 mins.

Re: Liverpool v Basel
Or in a more realistic world.........
LAMBERT LOVELY CUSHIONED HEADER FOR JOE ALLENNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN WHO PASSES IT BACKWARDS, BALL EVADES EVERYONE and its ended up in the feet of Lovren. Lovren, plays it to Johnson who goes to Skrtel. Skrtel under pressure back to Mignolet. Mignolet with time on the ball, passes it to Brendan Rodgers who loses possession to the Basel left back. BASEL ON THE BREAK HERE, BASEL 1-000000000000 STEVEN GERRARD OUT

If we dont employ that BS approach of first half from EPL, we will do fine otherwise if leave it to second half, then Tschüs !!!!!

OMG I won't be able to watch this match live My world just collapsed.
I have my last final during this game. Why is life so cruel? I know we are shit but why must I be the one to get the end of the stick
I won't be coming in to this thread fellas until I have watched. I'm gonna have to download it after the match and avoid the scores. Ugh

BBC wrote:Brendan Rodgers says Tuesday's must-win Champions League game with Basel is a chance for his players to write themselves into Liverpool folklore.
Rodgers' side must beat the Swiss team at Anfield to seal second place in Group B and reach the knockout stage.
"It will be a great night and it is up to us to get the job done," the Liverpool manager said.
"It is an opportunity for the players to qualify and make sure they write themselves into folklore."
A bit too grand to say that beating Basel at home and qualifying into the last-16 of the Champions League writes any Liverpool squad into the club's folklore, imo.
Anyway, less than 5 hours until kick-off
Let's do this!!!

Re: Liverpool v Basel
It's a European night at Anfield. A do or die game in the Champion's League. The most important game thus far in a season that has been fairly disappointing to this point. It's a chance for this team to spark their season in a big way. An heroic win will not only be massive in terms of qualifying for the knockout stages, but also for the fans and spirit of the team.
Sterling, Henderson and, most importantly, Gerrard will have to be at their best tonight. The atmosphere and stage are set for another inspiring night of football from the greatest club in the world. I only wish I could be there in person.

Mignolet, Johnson, Enrique, Lovren, Skrtel, Lucas, Allen, Henderson, Gerrard, Sterling, Lambert
So... is that the diamond? Gerrard as CAM or Henderson? If it's not the diamond, what is it? 4-4-1-1? I got to say I'm worried about lack of creativity in that XI. I feel one of Coutinho or Lallana should have started, probably Coutinho.
Anyway, it's our biggest game of the season so far. Get in!

Btw, Borini again not even on the bench
And here's a little stat from the BBC:
That's pretty horrid when you've spent over £100m in the summer.
...aaaanyway, let's win. Win.

Re: Liverpool v Basel
You know what, lucky we don't need a result from this to Qualify, oh waittttttttttttt.
What a *bleep* useless lineup again. When you need to win, you need someone who can create in the middle, we have no one besides an out of depth Gerrard FFS, Rodgers FML.

Re: Liverpool v Basel
1 - 0 down at half-time and oh good lord, we're playing some horrible 4-2-3-1. Rodgers is really just throwing shit on the wall and hoping something sticks. That feeling when you realize Lucas & Allen are supposed to run your midfield
Allen's been totally invisible. Should at least be Henderson in his spot and Coutinho in Henderson's left-wing spot. Jordan is completely wasted in that left-wing position, he looks lost there.
Gerrard's been useless as CAM, even horribly misplacing several passes. Why does Rodgers think a 34-year-old Gerrard should suddenly roll back the years to play CAM, I don't know. Just throwing shit at the wall and hoping something sticks.
Basel good value for their lead. Coutinho or Lallana must come on at the start of 2nd half. And we cannot continue with this random 4-2-3-1, at least not with Lucas and Allen running the show and an immobile Gerrard playing in front of them.
45 minutes left to salvage this horror show.

Re: Liverpool v Basel
Well *bleep*, it was a nice feeling in the last part of the game to think there could be a fairytale, but no we got eliminated.
Rodgers *bleep* this one hard, honestly the guy has no clue, don't let him waste our funds anymore.
Markovic is the biggest flop, the guy isnt even ganna get the ball, he turns his head and hits him in the face, the guy is the dumbest *bleep* in the world. What a waste of 20 mil.

Re: Liverpool v Basel
So much for grinding out a win
Rodgers with a massive f up, playing an experimental formation in a game like this
How we have players like Can and Lallana staying on the bench while Joe Allen plays the full 90, I'll never know. The Welsh Xavi, yeah, more like the Welsh Christian Poulsen.
Rodgers at half-time: "All right, so we need a couple of goals, let's change a full-back again and ermm take off our only striker and replace him with a winger".
Gerrard was such a passenger at CAM. A great free-kick, but those he can take playing DM or CM. At 34, he's a luxury option for CAM and we really cannot afford such an option when playing this bad.
Markovic was actually promising for 15 minutes, until his absolutely bizarre brain fart. A deserved red. Honestly, what makes him do that?
God damn, we got one win in a group that had Basel and Ludogorets in it... We're so wank this season. And judging by the changes Rodgers is making (Gerrard CAM, Henderson wide-AM, Lucas-Allen CM pair, freezing out Borini and then playing without a striker) we're not improving either.
Guess am I looking forward to facing United on the weekend.
