Pearce coming dangerously close to kicking off on live TV
I've also just belatedly realised that Mark Sampson is Welsh.
And get innnnnnnnnnnnn.

Impressive from England. Opponents will only get tougher though. Canada have no one to blame but Sesselmann.

Yeah, Germany well deserved & France let it go. That's the way it goes sometimes.rwo power wrote:@Lord Awesome
France forgot to drink their target water. They missed probably a dozen chances to score in regular time. If you squander such an amount of chances, it is all on you if you lose inthe end. Ask Bayern at the "Finale Dahoam" against Chelsea...

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
England have gone well beyond what was expected of them this World Cup. It's going to take an even bigger effort to get past Japan (who'll probably have 90% of the ball).
Looking forward to Wednesday night.

I refute the claims that I said Canada were a decent punt at 13-10.

A peak audience of 1.6mil watched the game on BBC1, which is more than decent considering the game kicked off at 00:30.

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
Watched the game at a wedding reception, believe it or not. It was honestly an excellent match. Tough luck for Canada, but can't make mistakes like that this late in the tournament.
Bardsley is rather shaky for England though I've noticed. Has a gaffe or 2 in her from time to time, but the team does well to nullify it. Well done over all for England. Hopefully this gives the women's (and the men's) game a jolt on that side of the pond. They really should be up there with the rest of the elites in the sport.

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
So, today we'll have the first semi final
USA vs Germany
USA: Solo - Krieger, Johnston, Sauerbrunn, Klingenberg - Holiday, Brian - Heath, Lloyd (c), Rapinoe - Morgan
Germany: Angerer (c) - Maier, Bartusiak, Krahn, Kemme - Leupolz, Goeßling - Laudehr, Mittag, Popp - Sasic
USWNT play in white, the German NT in red.
Cracking match already. And Nadine Angerer rules
HT - USA 0:0 Germany
USA are definitely the better team, but our goalie managed to keep us in the game so far.

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
USA could well end up ruing Morgan's misses during their first half dominance. Feels similar to Germany's quarterfinal against France.
Hope Maier realizes how lucky she is to still be playing.

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
I just heard that there were 4 different producers of artificial turf used on the 6 venues, plus they used different methods to water it, so all pitches were vastly different.
Only the turf at Vancouver got positive reviews it was said as they used some other granulate (?) that does not fly around and it keeps cooler, while other turfs are 40-50°C hot despite temperatures of 20°C outside.

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
I see Germany took some notes from the US's match against Colombia... playing to the referees' tendency to call very soft fouls to help them in defense.

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
Clear penalty for Germany and that miss is a let off for the US, but then I also thought that this instance in the first half was a foul that the referee missed.

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
And now foul penalty for the US! Looks like a mistake as the foul wasn't in the box.
