Re: Ángel Di María
Still can't believe Real Madrid let him go. Who cares though, he's ours now.
Genuine world class player. Best signing we've made in years, and it's a signing that was much needed too.
Can't wait for his debut on Saturday.

Re: Ángel Di María
Van Gaal likens Di Maria to Robben
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has likened the arrival of record signing Angel Di Maria to his capture of Arjen Robben for Bayern Munich in 2009.
The Argentinian can play wide or centrally and, like Robben, is capable of terrorising defences with his dribbling ability. After Robben also starred for van Gaal's Netherlands side, it is clear the boss envisages his new man having a similar to impact to his fellow former Real Madrid star.
"I have bought Di Maria because he can play inside and wide," confirmed van Gaal at a press conference following the Capital One Cup exit at the hands of MK Dons. "It's very handy is that for a coach.
"So maybe you remember when I was trainer-coach of Bayern Munich, I bought Arjen Robben, also in late August. He could also play on the wings and inside so then I have always the opportunity to change [tactics] but that is a process."
However, van Gaal is not sure whether he will alter his system and formation to accommodate the South American talent. When asked if he may switch to a 4-3-3, he replied: "That’s the process. I cannot clarify because we have to see in the process what we are doing. Exactly what I am saying is you cannot click your fingers and switch to another system. You are working and have to train with it.
"It’s a matter of time because the process needs time and we shall see if, with Di Maria, we have to change the system or not. I think he shall contribute very much in our way of playing, he is also a creative player. I think that he can contribute and that’s very important but we don’t want expect, from tomorrow, that the world has changed – no. He needs to get used to the culture of the Premier League and to the philosophy of Manchester United."
Encouragingly for United fans, the boss also admits the spectacular signing could make his debut during's Saturday's Barclays Premier League showdown with Burney - if he proves his fitness in training.
"I have spoken shortly with Di Maria because I have to go to this match at 10 o’clock and the bus was leaving," explained van Gaal. "He was at my hotel and I spoke very shortly and he said he was physically well. I have to see that [for myself] as he didn’t train today. Tomorrow, he shall participate in our training session. I shall see and speak more with him."

Re: Ángel Di María
"I was aware of the importance of the No. 7 shirt. Cristiano Ronaldo had spoken to me at Real Madrid and told me how important it was.
"I wanted to wear this shirt and do as much for the club as Ronaldo and the others could do.

Still can't believe we sold him. Was one of our best players last season.
Good luck to him at Man Utd.

Re: Ángel Di María
In my opinion, it is difficult to play Di Maria from the first minute tomorrow, because he's only been in Manchester for a few days. From my perspective, the only case he should make his debut would be if we will be leading Burnley with 2 or more goals and he'll enter the pitch in the last 15-20 mins. Otherwise, it would be risky; not necessarily a mistake, but risky.

Re: Ángel Di María
LvG played Di Maria from the first minute and he did a decent job at his debut considering that he was surrounded by some weak players, completely out of form like Young, Evans, Fletcher or even Valencia.

Re: Ángel Di María
I feel sorry for Di Maria.
He seemed at times dissatisfied when the ball was held for too long and with the choice of where the ball was passed to.
Even I have been frustrated by the way we pass the ball since match-day one.

Re: Ángel Di María
Very impressed with him yesterday.
Whenever he received the ball he looked to make things happen, wanted to take on players, looking for space to run into, encouraging the play. Played a lovely pass for RVP, and that bit of skill and run he did before delivering the ball into the box (which Mata should have buried) was another nice bit of play from him.
Signs are there of what's to come from him once he settles at the club, the league and our style of play.
Must of been a shock to the poor guy once he saw Young, Fletcher and Valencia alongside him...then his sub- Anderson

Re: Ángel Di María
@vizko I totally agree with you. Last season, Di Maria was at his best; I'm pretty sure he wasn't the most talented player from Real Madrid but he was for sure the most decisive and most important piece in the squad considering that he practically won the UCL for them.
For me, it means a lot that we bought a player like him, a proven midfielder/winger. It is only a matter of time until him, Mata, Herrera and Falcao will complete each other on the pitch and win points for the fans and for the team. They need a few months with Louis van Gaal's new tactical ideas.
