He probably revived his career in Germany. Bit like Barzagli. At Dortmund he looked quite fast and imposing. Great tackler and highly intelligent. I don't think Subotic will start over him when they are both fit.

We bought Papa after he 'kept Messi in his pocket' at the 2010 WC. He even played against Arsenal for us in an Emirates Cup game. That was the era of the T. Silva - Nesta partnership, so it's unsurprising that Sokratis looked bad on the few occasions he stepped in.

Papa was legit to Genoa (while I can't say same thing for Milan, my Milan fans friends hated him ) , but hardly you could imagine to watch him in an European top club soon , not for that level basically. Infact when Milan signed him from Genoa  it was done under a general indifference.
but I didn't watch him in Germany so I don't know how much he is improved. Surely he will have done , otherwise it is enough surprising

Chambers should playing at DM. The would leave Mert and Kosc with Papa as 1st choice backup

Nah we need to replace Vermaelen. Chambers however talented is young and makes mistakes and will make mistakes due to inexperience. Need someone very good to be back up who can come in and replace Mert/Kos if needed.

To be fair to Sokratis, he was given very few opportunities to prove himself in the centre and was instead treated as a utility man. He filled in at right back a few times without impressing and was moved on very quickly. He made a move to a big club prematurely in my opinion, he wasn't ready to break apart such a strong central defensive partnership and could ill afford to spend a few years fighting his way into the team. His move to Germany was perfect for him.
