Re: Summer of 2014: Part 2
Signing this Manquillo guy (on loan) is pretty harsh on Flanagan, imo. I don't see why we would sign a full-back who'd be below him in the pecking order and signing Manquillo, who has done even less than Flanagan in his career, just feels a little unfair on Flanagan, imo, who did OK last season.
I dunno, maybe Flanno will be ahead of Manquillo in the pecking order still, we'll see.
As for Moreno, I second what Hank said, I like Enrique, but if Moreno and Jose both get to feature in that left-back position, then it's all good. But I don't want Enrique being left with only League Cup minutes, he's better than that.

Dont attack me for this, But i think we should spend the other way round, An above average loanee at LB and a solid starter at RB, Granted Cissokho didnt work out though.

2. You really have to get over me. Every second post is about me. Seriously, calm down you're scaring me.
3. I don't even know who Manquillo is. I'm sure you know SO MUCH about him considering he had three games in the Liga last season. (This is not a dig at the signing before you pms. Just not sure how an "unknown" player is an improvement. It's either hit or miss.)
4. I'm sure Moreno (A LEFT BACK) is going to steal game time from Gleninho and kick him out of the starting XI. You should be a pundit tbh.

Re: Summer of 2014: Part 2
Signing Manquilo is nothing harsh on Flana...everyone has to earn their place. I am sure preseason has proved once again that currently GJ is in shyte form of his life.
If Enrique remains fit for the season, he is good enough to start for us. On the other way, that RB position is really weak, having GJ as a back up option is suicide

We need both LB and RB just as bad. Manquillo's loan signing will have no downside to it so I'm not against it. I doubt he'll be a starter this season. Moreno though will walk into the team. You don't spend 20m on a defender to sit him on the bench, world just doesn't work like that unless he turns out to be completely shit.
Johnson will leave next summer and if Manquillo and Flanno didn't show enough this season then we'll get our starting RB next summer.
I like both of these signings.

Re: Summer of 2014: Part 2
First off, I love the Manquillo and Moreno signings. Moreno is the type of player that could be a regular for us for the next 8 years. Enrique will almost certainly stay on at this point, and he may even start for the first few weeks of the season. However, you don't spend 16-20m on a fullback for him to be 2nd choice.
Manquillo is a much more interesting prospect. I see a few of you are saying this is harsh on Flanagan and relegate him to 3rd choice, but I don't take it that way. I think it may be a positive sign for young Flanno. If these signings (Moreno/Manquillo) go through, Johnson becomes the most likely to leave, in my opinion. A combination of high wages and poor performances make him not only expendable, but also a detriment to the squad. With only Flanno and Enrique as other options, it was necessary to keep him. However, with Flanno, Manquillo, Enrique, Moreno, and Kelly, he's suddenly far more expendable. I could easily see him leaving and Flanno, Kelly, and Manquillo platooning the position until a clear starter emerges.
Switching gears, Coates has quietly impressed me over several preseason appearances. I had previously expected him to be unceremoniously shipped out under Rodgers. However, after very competent performances against City and Roma, I would not be upset with him as the 4th/5th choice CB. He looked good in his positioning and composed in his tackling. Even his recovery pace was surprising. Dare I say that he's beginning to look like the CB we thought we were buying after the 2011 Copa America? A contingent of Sakho, Lovren, Skrtel, Toure (or Agger), and Coates would be enough to deal with the demands of multiple competitions, while allowing us to loan out Illori and Wisdom for more regular playing time.

Re: Summer of 2014: Part 2
I still fully expect Coates to go as soon as we receive a decent offer. I think his future was settled (as being away from Anfield) last summer and his impressive showings, along with the compliments he's received from Rodgers, are merely a bonus for us in our attempts to get a solid fee.
I also suspect that Kelly has no real future at the club either, unfortunately. Injuries have stunted his development and left a huge black mark in his profile in terms of reliability and I expect he'll end up at a mid-to-low PL club by the end of next summer.
We also have Reina, one senior CB, Borini, and even Assaidi still at the club currently. That's an absolute minimum of 21m or so (14m Borini, 7m Assaidi) to go into our pursuit of a replacement attacker. Assuming we have used some of the Suarez funds on Lovren and will do so on Moreno we'll STILL have 35m left over from that as well.
That's 49m plus any other sales for an attacking signing this summer OR that can be saved for use in January "just in case."
According to James Pearce of the Echo it does seem likely that we'll pursue another forward/attacker after finalising the fullback moves... even if Borini doesn't leave. If he does leave, it's almost certain we'll try to sign another forward to offer more depth/competition.

3. Coates (loan)
4. Toure
5. Teixeira (loan)
6. Rosetteir (loan)
7. Coady
8. Assaidi

Re: Summer of 2014: Part 2
I'm quite sure Assaidi will end up at Stoke, it's just a question whether we are going to have settle for less than £7m.
Borini is a bit of a fool if he turns down Sunderland (unless he has other offers incoming) as it doesn't look like he's in Rodgers' plans.
Toure is certainly staying, we knew this when we signed him for two years.
Reina "worries" me the most, what club needs him and will offer him the wages he's going to ask? Then again, it wouldn't be that bad to have him for competition to Mignolet.
The rest don't really matter.

So, is anyone else starting to get a little worried about this striker issue?
Reus rumours are probably not going to vanish, but I find it unlikely he would sign for us. Today there have been Balotelli rumours....
We need a striker who can cover for Sturridge and/or play with him. Remy was looking like an OK option, but that fell through. It's two weeks until the start of the season. What are the names we could realistically get? Because we really need to bring in someone decent and we're in August already.

Not really, no. We still have a full month to address the issue and Rodgers has specifically stated multiple times that it IS on the agenda to do so. No reason to worry when it's clear that the club has the time, money, and recognition to deal with the situation.
Besides, we already have 3 CFs in Sturridge, Lambert, and Borini plus a number of others who can cover the position in a pinch, either as out of position (but still relatively comfortable players) or as youngsters getting their chance on the big stage. 4 CFs would be nice if we plan to play a formation with two strikers regularly (diamond midfield, 3 CBs, etc) but if we're planning to use 4-3-3 most of even half of the time having 3 out-and-out CFs is just fine with me, especially when all three have the necessary attributes to work together in any real combination. I like Borini and I think he has the tactical nous and personality to make his LFC career work despite the struggles so far, assuming gets a bit of love from Lady Luck this season (should he stay).
And even if Borini doesn't stay, we're looking at a kitty of nearly £50m (£35m minimum left from Suarez plus £14m or so from Borini... AND other sales like Assaidi) and three to four weeks to find a player or two in attack. At this point we'll be able to meet a club's selling value (unless it's an absurd Carroll-esque fee) so that a deal should be relatively straightforward. If it isn't ,it's because one or both clubs are being intentionally obtuse about it and I rather doubt with recent experience that LFC will risk playing it that way and missing out altogether.
But as I said, we currently have solid personnel to cover it and we have plenty of time, money, and interest to get a deal done. I'm not concerned.

I am nt so worried if BR has Borini in his plans for the next season as a striker. But if he wants someone else, it is little worrisome, because we dont have a good record getting deals done late in the window.

I don't see how that's worrying at all. Would you rather the club be giving on indications that it DOESN'T have a specific type of target in mind and therefore might just throw money at the first forward that appears to be available (a'la Carroll)?

With Daniel Sturridge having flown home for treatment to a hamstring injury, Lambert is the Reds’ only senior frontman for the final. Rodgers admits that illustrates the pressing need to bring in more firepower ahead of the Premier League campaign getting underway.
“Yes. Getting another striker in is crucial for us,” he said.

Clearly even BR ack. we desperately need a striker.Really that should have been our first priority the moment Suarez was leaving.

No I don't think it should have, given we scored more than enough goals (and are continuing to score) while the defense has needed upgrading for several seasons.
We've rightly added real depth and a greater spread of creativity and general ability to the squad and are now addressing defense before throwing money at another forward who will most likely be a rotation (in a 2 forward team)/back-up (in the 4-3-3) option for the majority of the season.

Lambert and Borini are okay for back-up, but not starting quality for a top-4 club. I'm not worried about money, but the lack of realistic and good enough names being thrown around worries me.
My knowledge outside of British football is quite limited, but I'm struggling to identify strikers that are available and can be trusted to be good enough to start for us.
I mean, Remy wasn't an ideal option in the first place.
