So you have no idea what the hype is about when a guy has played 45 games total in a top team in a top 5 league in the world in his age 17 and 18 seasons? On top of which he has 4 goals in his last 14 games played mostly as a sub and mostly as a winger** in a very defensive and goal-shy league. Then he goes and looks like a monster in the WC and outperforms Lukaku. All of this done mostly before the age of 19 (he turned 19 in April).

**to be clear, not as a traditional winger but more of a wide forward as is fairly common these days

Then you look at his physical attributes (speed, size and strength combination), his talent level and his versatility and it's not hard to see where the hype is from and why Liverpool was actually scouting and tapping him up before the WC even started.

Serves Liverpool right for what they did to Remy.  He has a frakking heart defect since birth.  It's been well documented and known since his youth days at Lyon.  How could Liverpool not know about it?  Not to mention he's never had a problem with it... ever.  If he hasn't had even the slightest problem until now, he's not going to suddenly have one.

Um...I don't understand what this means "serves Liverpool right for what they did to Remy". Did they wrong him in some way? They tried to sign him and give him a chance at a top flight club and he failed the medical...I don't see how this is some negative thing by Liverpool.

Would rather Lacazette or Bony anyway.

Really?

He fails FOUR medicals in his career and it's Liverpool's fault they didn't choose to sign the player on a 5 year deal worth 80k a week? Laughing We're wealthy, but we're not THAT wealthy ffs.

He's inferior to Skrtel ffs.

And the CBs were hardly the problem last season. We did need to improve but it wasn't the main reason we conceded goals.

Bigger problems were obviously:

-The fullbacks
-The fact that we played a 2 man midfield at the start of the season
-The fact that we played a 3 man defence at the start of the season
-The fact that we were playing Gerrard as a "defensive midfielder" (we didn't have no defensive balance in midfield last season)
-Mignolet's first season at the club and had to adapt to his new surroundings.

Skrtel was to blame for some goals (some comical, some just plain unfortunate), but you're kidding yourself if you think Lovren replacing Skrtel out of the starting XI is the reason we won't concede as much as we did last season.

We have both enough experience and "leaders" in defence before you claim we signed Lovren for "leadership".

I don't see how experienced players like GJ, Enrique and Skrtel need leadership around them. Agger and Sakho are both "leaders". Gerrard's pretty much back there alot too, he ain't exactly a passenger. lol

I kind of agree with pooi, Skrtel and Agger did nothing so badly that i would be calling for one of them to get sold.

But that doesnt mean i dont want a change, They have been our CB's since Hodgson ffs. Lovren might be fresh air cuz i have no trust on Sakho.

So based on what Rodgers is saying outside of someone of interest suddenly becoming available he's ok with waiting until January to make the right signing. The money is there but he doesn't want to spend frivolously which is nice.
Art Morte wrote:Just offer Napoli €60m for Higuain :coffee:
Higuain isn't leaving Napoli, though he'd do well here.

I don't see how anyone watching the EPL last year could think that Lovren is inferior to Skrtel. He was a much more solid defender last season and was only 24 for the duration of the season. Even if all he does is play of a similar level consistently but eliminate the stupid mistakes that Skrtel makes sadly too frequently that will be a big plus to the team.

Nobody is saying that the CBs were the only problem last year in terms of goals conceded, but they were certainly a part of that problem all the same. Getting an upgrade there is a good thing, and Lovren is an upgrade.

Why? hmm

Surely anyone can sit on the bench once in a while.

My other suggestion is what I've suggested already, make Ibe the next Sturridge, starting right now :coffee:

Or play Sterling in the Walcott role where he can score 20+ smoking

No, I think you are still joking, I think if you spend 60m on a striker everyone would defo expect him to start when he is fit. We need a versatile player like Borini or Remy; sadly Borini seems like, he wont be able to step up for us.

I would even go for Firmino, I think we can play him even as false 9 if required or when Studge injured.

We still need a back up to Sturridge even if we get someone like Firmino/Shaqiri/SES. He's so injury prone I will have a heart attack if our only options are Borini and Lambert as ST. These guys won't be able to start for clubs like Villa and Newcastle.

I think Firmino in the attacking position may provide goals when our strikers are not able to. He really likes to score goals and assist too. He is surely moving to top 4 club in the coming Jan window or next summer window.

Time will tell if Lovren is 1 season wonder or not, he had 3 not so good year in France, Lyon fans were glad he's sold. That's quite high price for player with 1 good year.

I'm still very disappointed we sold Hodzic. really liked that kid and I think we'll hear of him in the future being a very decent player somewhere else.

Hank btw Adam Phillips has been with us for a while. He was in the academy last season and even trained with the first team. We didn't sign him this season from Spurs. I think you meant someone else.

Exactly. Flopped at Lyon (in Europe atleast) where he definitely looked like he had potential after a few stand out games in L1, but he's not THAT good ffs. Like you said, Lyon fans weren't upset seeing him go and rightfully so.

20M for a defender buys you world class. Instead, we buy mid-table. All because he had one good season in the PL being "proven" and all. Again.

We really don't learn.

We get rid of Torres at a time where he became a mid-table striker with another mid-table striker in Carroll.
We get rid of Kuyt/Maxi because they were getting old and not good enough and replaced him with 20M Stewie Downing who was on the same level/inferior. You could argue inferior ffs. Laughing
Get rid of Suarez for what looks like Lallana as his replacement. Laughing
Will get rid of either Skrtel/Agger for not being good enough, and replacing him with 20M defender Lovren who JUST reaches their level where both players are, let's be on honest, on their decline and not good enough. Laughing
