See how they handle it going into 2016 and beyond.
I believe they'll be back strong soon again, they've got talented young players and the country produces new talent a lot. The problem here was that the team needed youth and hunger injected into it already, but Del Bosque didn't do that. Now that their failure here made that need obvious, that change of guard will be done and they should be back strong and soon. That's how I see it, anyway.

Re: RIP Spain
Its hard to pinpoint. But the biggest factor must be just the reign coming to an end where everybody has less hunger, desire, fitness to compete 120% and win.
Del Bosque I think getting things wrong this time, there are quite a few, Villa not featuring, relying on Costa and Torres up front. Not sorting out the defense and playing too high line. Silva gamble to the middle and dropping Xavi completely vs Chile...
Tiredness - The Barca, Real, Atletico players I think all had an exhausting season.
Not used to and being able to handle when things dont go smoothly and to turn things around.
Chemistry. Pique and Ramos not clicking obviously. Azpi for all the praise doesnt offer anything going forward for me, I dont know just different to what Spain used to have.
Netherlands waiting 4 years for revenge and countering Spain. Chile good at countering Spain.
Tika Taka being countered in general terms.
And so every era comes to an end, Barca's and Spain's closely linked and hence proven

Re: RIP Spain
Need new management in charge.
Del Bosque is a great manager but he's too player loyal to get rid of the older players and bleed in youth. They've had identical squads since Euro 2008...

Re: RIP Spain
Spain tempered with its system they lost because they didn't know whether to play direct or like they usually do in past. Costa caused more problems to spain then iker

Re: RIP Spain
I'll try to raise a few points about the Spain situation
1)Philosophy- PATIENCE. It seems to have been forgotten by the team as a whole. It was the key to Spain's success. Opponents have adapted and will park the bus against them blah blah, but it's a key component to the way they used to play and shouldnt be chucked out of the window like this. Patience is the key.
2)Alonso- Xavi has declined and he plays like it. No longer making 100 passes each match and playing more as a supporting player. Xabi Alonso on the other hand is still trying to hold on to his spot in midfield. Rewatch first half of Spain v Netherlands and you'll see Alonso started higher up the pitch and Busquets was feeding the ball into midfielders perfectly fine, Spain were controlling the match. After the penalty, Xabi was forced? deeper to find space and he took the responsibility of Busquets and tried to carry it alone. Making his usual Hollywood passes and his inability to turn and maneuver puts the team under pressure. He needs to stop thinking he's the king of the midfield and accept he's past his best. imo of course.
3)Ramos - Spain's been on the decline since Ramos started playing as a CB for them. Coincidence? It's up for debate.
Can't be bothered to go into more details as others have raised good points too.

No wonder they are the first team out of the World Cup.
