RIP Spain
The signs were there at the Confederations Cup and now it seems even more apparent. There were cries for some change in players and change in style by some fans and those calls seem justified now. Discuss. How did things go so horribly wrong? Where do the problems lie? And how to bounce back?

Revert back to false 9 imo.
Don't know if there is a solution for that defense though.

Diego Costa looked like a fish trying desperately to swim on the sand...
what a beating to VdB's strategy. Hopefully they will never recover from this and hopefully Chileans will finish the job.

Re: RIP Spain
I still think Spain can rebound and do very well in this competition. There were signs of that Spain we know and love, a second-half meltdown shouldn't fool you. Del Bosque just needs to grow some serious balls and change things up quite a bit , because there is talent on the bench.
Iniesta looked great as always.. and the link up play was pretty good.

Re: RIP Spain
On a serious note I would like to know why and how they lost it so much in the 2nd half. One of the weirdest games I've seen as they were quite dominant in the first half. Should have easily made it 2-0 when Silva choked infront of goal. How do they go on to concede 5 in about 45 minutes?

a.k.a DDG
Selecting a declining Casillas over De Gea is nothing but inviting trouble.
For them to rebound now they need to assassinate Australia by at least a margin of 5 goals to even get to level terms as far as GD is concerned.
Dutch even if they loose to Chile will beat Socceroos and Chile too will get 6 points.
So if those 2 avoid a thrashing in the next 2 games, Spain wont go through

Re: RIP Spain
Spain have themselves to blame, as they could've had 2-3 goals in the first half, fell asleep in the second once they went down 2-1 they panicked and VdB made a bad sub by taking Alonso off, which allowed counter attack after counter attack. Never the less that was a fine performances by the dutch.

That was beautiful viewing. Loved every minute of it from the moment Blind delivered that exquisite pass to RVP.

you made it sound like it's a classic case of " the team that misses chances will get punished in the end "
holland could've easily scored early when sneijder was one on one with casillas .
and needless to mention that spain's only goal came from a nonexistent penalty .
the only clear chance they missed in the first half was silva's.
they don't have " themselves " to blame , they got thrashed by the better team , simple as that.

Spain conceded 2 goals in the 2010 World Cup. They've conceded 5 goals in 80 minutes in 2014
