While there are better options, Getting Cesc isn't bad at all.

Oh he's a top player, but too old for my liking, don't like who he is and don't really want barcas scraps.

27 isn't too old, he is entering his prime years, a 4 year contract is good because that is when he will likely start declining.

Yaya Toure was a 'Barca scrap' at one point too, you know. Ibrahimovic too.

Both were pushed out of the team due to playing styles. This guy barca spent months tapping up and saying he had their dna now they don't want him?
So now we(or the board it seems) want him when he doesn't really hold a natural position in our team?
60m might seem like stupid money for Pogba but take Luiz into the equation and we're getting him for 10m and have the we'll have the best pivot in the league for the next 5 seasons.

Could say the similarly about Cesc. When your competition in and around the position or positions you'd be playing in is Xavi, Iniesta, etc., its hardly a slight that you didn't do as well as initially hoped.

Re: Let's talk about Cesc, Baby
If Iniesta/Xavi were anywhere near as good as they used to be i'd be inclined to agree.
I feel like he'll come back to PL and dominate again, his passing style and playing style suits our league perfectly. I still just don't want him though haha

Re: Let's talk about Cesc, Baby
So you don't want a player you admit whose passing and style suits the league perfectly, and who will dominate it when he returns?

Basically I don't want a player I strongly dislike when we could go for better options.

Oh, so it's a personal issue now.

Might fit our league but still stand by the fact that he doesn't suit our team.
Also seems like more of a board signing than a Mourinho one.

Undone by the comment below so you don't quote it sly dog
I guess we'll just ignore Abra's/boards last fantastic signing Torres.

Re: Let's talk about Cesc, Baby
For that second part, I'd just refer you back to the response I gave when Kickster brought it up a few days ago:
Shed wrote:You're telling me the club that gave him the discretion and control to sell Mata, sell Luiz, release 2 veterans with a combined 21 years at the club in Frank and Ash within weeks of each other, bought the exact kind of players that would fit his style in Willian and Matic for over £50m...only to force some champagne signing on the team without his consent at the behest of the usual 'sexy football' pursuit the media seems hellbent on and enamoured with portraying Roman as doggedly and recklessly going after?
Please

Re: Let's talk about Cesc, Baby
Agree to disagree, i've got to do assignments
When somebody offers 50m for Luiz you take it, I highly doubt the board were trying to stop him in that and as for Lampard/Cole it was their own decisions to leave rather than Mourinho forcing them out but either way we don't really know what's going on behind closed doors. I'll still have my fingers crossed that we somehow miss out on him and get somebody else.

Re: Let's talk about Cesc, Baby
Torres was a Carlo signing, only Shava was a signing strongly pushed by Roman.
Luiz, Ramires, and Torres were Carlo big singing at Chelsea. My bet Torres is going to be last one standing at this club.

@lszanto: My point is - they were all big calls, and he was allowed to make them. To think that the board would then, after all that, force some signing on him he didn't want, just doesn't add up for me.
Anyway, good luck on your work, mate

Re: Let's talk about Cesc, Baby
Couple of slightly contradictory rumours:
Arsenal could miss out on Cesc Fabregas payment in Chelsea transfer deal with Barcelona

Chelsea are trying to structure a deal to sign Cesc Fabregas that would lead to Arsenal missing out on any payment for their former midfielder.
Although Arsenal have so far passed up the opportunity to re-sign Fabregas, they are due around 50 per cent of any profit Barcelona make on the Spaniard.
Chelsea have opened negotiations with Barcelona over signing Fabregas, but would prefer not to end up effectively paying their Premier League rivals Arsenal a percentage of the fee.
The issue is not a deal-breaker and there is hope that progress could be made on a deal this week. But it once again highlights the fact that Chelsea view FA Cup winners Arsenal as direct rivals.
After three seasons back at the Nou Camp, the overall cost of the Fabregas deal so far stands at just over £28 million.
Barcelona have put a £30 million asking price on Fabregas, but Chelsea ideally want to pay £27 million, which would see Arsenal miss out on receiving any kickbacks.

So not only are we dicking them over, we're dicking them over.
Brilliant

Glad I'm not the only one that thinks about that angle
Part of the reason why I'm against the D.Costa signing is since he's slow in FIFA
