First he organises a tournament during peak Corona first wave where a few people including himself ends testing positive
Then he organises a union of which most players don't even want to be a part of,
and now he has been disqualified from the US Open for hitting a ball into the head/neck of a line judge

Bet she milked a lot of money out of Nole too.

Yeah agreed with this. Very harsh sentence. I think they did it because if they didn't that could open them up for legal liability, but that's just the USO covering their ass.danyjr wrote:

sure, the throat is a sensitive area, but it's a tennis ball, come on, you cough it off and take deep breaths.
and if you're really such a baby about it, you take off the rest of the match if your throat is still sore and let someone else replace your line judging duties

Falling apart

I won't debate whether it is the right call or not, but he is on his way to cementing the GOAT status and people just don't want that.

Re: The official Tennis thread
I am certainly no expert on tennis, I trained when I was a kid and followed a bit, only got really interested during the Roger - Rafa rivalry, and obviously later when Djokovic took the world by storm.
If Novak was Canadian or something he would already be cemented. People can deny it but he is just not shaped by the mould in which old rich people imagine a tennis goat should be.
And he just keeps shitting on them. And he will shit on them again after this. Because he's a psychological monster and the strength he carries is astonishing, and IMO, outshines his tennis abilities.
Federer and Nadal are better tennis players. But Djokovic will beat both. That is why I like him, and also because he has more character and charisma than Rafa and Roger combined.

Also Nole has a good shot at being the GOAT, but as a person he's a little wack. Between him parroting conspiracy theories and organizing a tournament during COVID my estimation of him has fallen a lot over the past year.

Now he's got the most (equal) grand slams to prove it.

The GOAT title should be exclusively reserved for the player with the most Grand Slam titles.

BREAKING: Naomi Osaka withdrew from the French Open.
— AJ+ (@ajplus) May 31, 2021
She was fined for not going to press conferences for mental health reasons: "I am not a natural public speaker and get huge waves of anxiety before I speak to the world's media." pic.twitter.com/o094ZrP5w2
She withdrew because the French Open fined her $15,000 and threatened to expel her over this statement:
— NaomiOsaka大坂なおみ (@naomiosaka) May 26, 2021
Roland-Garros originally responded with this now deleted tweet:
Imagine @rolandgarros would see it in their infinite wisdom to issue a tweet like this after Naomi Osaka declined an interview.
— Republic of Anthony (@BissieSmalls) June 1, 2021
Now what if in a show of solidarity for their fellow pro, they all understood the assignment, tore it up and left the French Open too? pic.twitter.com/SDNY2uGQGk
They then issued this formal response after the backlashed forced the deletion of that above tweet:
Statement from Grand Slam tournaments regarding Naomi Osaka.#RolandGarros
— Roland-Garros (@rolandgarros) May 30, 2021
My take: I don't watch a lot of tennis, but what little I do watch has been on the women's side. I watched Osaka's rise when she almost beat Serena (and all that controversy) and I've seen her handle this fame with so much grace and poise. As an introvert, it's very clear to me that she's uncomfortable with it and that it is very taxing on her energy. It's no surprise her mental health is being affected. So she made the right decision here.
As for Roland-Garros, they fucked this up royally. That deleted tweet is absolutely egregious. It's one thing to hold a player to a contract, which they're within their rights to do. It's quite another to bully them into quitting the tournament by shame-tweeting her like they did here. That was as passive-aggressive as it gets. And now they've lost their top star on the women's side and for what? Meaningless press interviews where the same questions get asked over and over again. I sure hope it was worth it because now no one's happy here.
