Re: The official Tennis thread
Damn we are so close yet so far.
Wawrinka has to be considered the favorite of the 4 left.
Nadal should really defeat Dimitrov, who has been amazing as well in 2017. It's not going to be a walk in the park though.
Tennis gods need to give us this one. Just please.

Not really following the sport at all these days but saw a poll on twitter about the semi finals lol.
How is Nadal in the semis lol? I thought he completely sucked these days and basically was damaged goods.

This is literally the first slam in 3 years where he's not scrubbing so he was damaged goods like you thought.
Also his draw wasn't very difficult until the quarters and he got lucky with matchups. You have to remember Nadal is an all time great. He has more skill in his pinky toe than most of the players on tour. Monfils in the round of 16 is pretty much a poor mans work horse. You cannot beat Nadal if you're game is purely based on athleticism and working hard which is what Monfils is. And Raonic has an awful all around game. His whole game is based on his serve. I mean the dude is the most boring serve-bot I've ever seen. Granted his serve is incredible but when it's off, as it was in the quarters against Nadal, he sucks.
He should beat Dimitrov in the semi but Dimitrov is playing the best tennis of his career and he has a lot of skill. Just on pure talent and skill Dimitrov is easily top 10 player in the world but seems he's not mentally strong and hasn't been taken tennis as seriously in his career thus far.

And we have it lads.
Federer-Nadal final.
This could just be the last time we see these two goats ever in a slam final.
If you're not watching, you are the biggest idiot on the planet.

Re: The official Tennis thread
I'll be flying
Anyway. Looking past Nadal's draining semi-final and one less day of rest, because Nadal is a beast who can go on forever, I still have to fancy Federer's tip-top game at this point of his career on this sort of surface against Nadal's tip-top game at this point of his career.
Nadal has had the easier road to the final of the two, his biggest threats coming in a serve merchant in Raonic who couldn't get his serve right, while Dimitrov who is still not at his peak yet, and not near to being one of the top players in the world at the moment, took him all the way and made him earn a place in the finals.

Didn't actually think Nadal was going to win. Dimitrov was returning everything. Dimitrov should have finished that in the last set when he almost broke him.

OH Y *bleep* LORD
THE GOAT HAS DONE IT
ROGER HAS DONE IT
NUMBER 18.
WOW
Against his kryptonite. Against his greatest rival who is 5 years younger than him. WOW.
To come back from a break in the 5th set with some of the most unbelievable shots. WOW.
HIs greatest victory.
If you didn't watch that. You are the biggest idiot on earth.

Re: The official Tennis thread
You could say Nadal choke or you could give credit to the goat for some of the most incredible backhand winners.
He relentlessly put pressure on every Nadal serve and kept getting break points. And finally broke it on like the 6th or 7th break point in that set.
That was insanely clutch from Roger after being 3-1 down. He won 5 straight games with just immaculate shot making on those two Nadal breaks.

A bit sad I didn't catch it, but the one true GOAT did it.
Dream final, still can't believe it worked out this way. All this time his fans were just waiting for one more grand slam win for him.

Re: The official Tennis thread
Roger decimates Rafa again in about one 1 hour in Indian Wells 3 consecutive win against Rafa now
Looks like the head to head is becoming respectable now.
They are tied on hard court 9-9. Roger is ahead on on grass. And Rafa is ahead on Clay.
Both Djokovic and Murray knocked out as well in Indian Wells. Roger has Kyrgios in the quarters. Nashikori and Wawrinka are still in.

Re: The official Tennis thread
Federer is in the final at Indian Wells
He's playing some of the best tennis of his life. I think his backhand is better than it was in his prime at the moment. Just absolutely godly.
Will face Wawrinka on Monday.
If he wins it will his 90th career singles title. He's currently 3rd all time behind Lendl(94) and Jimmy Connors (109).

Re: The official Tennis thread
Roger wins Indian Wells Easily dispatches Wawrinka in 2 sets in the final.
Playing some of the best tennis since his prime. been the best player in the world in 2017.
He's got 3045 points for the year. Might get number 1 spot back by US Open if this form continues.
Both Murray and Djokovic choking away some big points in the rankings so far this early season.

Re: The official Tennis thread
Next up is Miami Open Masters this week.
Both Djokovic and Murray have pulled out of Miami because of injuries. Roger is the favorite there.
If he gets over 4000 points before April he can definitely get the number spot back by year end.

Re: The official Tennis thread
Roger beats Del Potro in straight sets in Miami and moves to Round of 16 to face Bautista Agut.
Like I said Murray and Djokovic pulled out of this tourney. Raonic retired because of injury as well.
Nishikori and Nadal are on the other side of the draw so he won't face them until the final if they can get there. Wawrinka/Kyrgios is a possibility in the semis.
If Roger wins this, he'd have won the first 3 big tournaments of the season. Heading for that year end number 1 spot. Too good to be true.

Re: The official Tennis thread
Wawrinka and Nishikori both out as well in the last few days.
We're left with Nadal vs Fognini and Federer vs Zverev/Kyrgios in the semis.
Zverev, Kyrgios, and Fognini are scary opponents. I can definitely see Fognini knocking Nadal out like he did 2015 US Open. And Kyrgios and Zverev are future world numbers 1s.

Re: The official Tennis thread
Federer vs Nadal final in Miami.
Kyrgios is playing some great tennis. His game is so fun to watch but mentally this dude is a 5 year old. Had the match in his hands to beat Roger but blew it with mental weakness because he couldn't handle the hostile crowd.
Plus he's a total douche to the ballboys. I like entertaining villains and I think Tennis definitely needs more villains but there's no need for being an asshole like Nick is.
