Re: The official Tennis thread
What a match from Djokovic! Some of those shots by Simon would have floored anyone, but Djokovic somehow managed to fight on.
The women's draw is so weak. Williams vs Sharapova in the quarters...whoever wins that match wins the whole thing.

Re: The official Tennis thread
Getting to the quarterfinals stage. From now it's going to be really interesting.
I have Wawrinka coming out of the bottom draw ahead of Murray.
I hope Nishikori can play the match of his life to stop Djokovic. Otherwise Roger is done here again.

Re: The official Tennis thread
I'm really hoping Nishikori can pull through here.
Also Raonic has been on absolute tear lately. He beat Roger in the final of Brisbane right before AO. Knocking out Stan is huge last round. I think he can beat Monfils and Murray to come out to the final from the bottom draw.

Djokovic completely destroying Federer 6-1 in the first set. After William's complete annihilation in her semi, when are we going to get a good close match?

Some of those shots from Federer would have beaten any other man. Don't know how Djokovic not only manages to return the ball, but at such power and accuracy...

Re: The official Tennis thread
Great win for Novak. His level dipped massively in the final 2 sets. Stopped hitting flat balls deep and made to many unforced errors in the second so he decided to just hit more top spin, made it kind of a pushing match.
Even at his worst he is better than Murray
There is noone on tour capable of beating him and the only one that can go toe to toe with him consistently on the baseline is Warwinka. I hope he does the grandslam this year.

Still can't believe he hasn't won a Roland Garros.
There's absolutely no one that can stop him, he has to win it this year.

Imagine if Rafa decides to win La Decima

The only two people that can beat him are the dynamic swiss duo and Federer only becomes aggressive when he has nothing to lose.

Re: The official Tennis thread
Honestly if anyone can challenge Djoker, you would think it would be the goat clay player. But Nadal isn't even 50% of his former self these days. But what a story that would be
I agree about the Swiss duo. Though Roger is too old for Clay. I'm predicting quarters or semis at most. High chance he gets booted in one of the early round if he gets a workhorse baseline player matched up against him.
I can only see Wawrinka if he he returns to last years Roland Garros form or 2014 AO. At that peak level he is unbeatable even by Djokovic.

Re: The official Tennis thread
Yeah saw the live press conference.
Apparently it's a drug she's been taking for 10 years that only became illegal on January 1st of 2016. She was unaware of the situation with the drug going into AO.
This is actually smart of her to get ahead of the story and admit to it really quick as she has.

Think she is retiring anyways
Doubt she will ever win a grand slam again.

Re: The official Tennis thread
She's not retiring.
The rumor that she might retire came out because she announced the press conference out of nowhere and no none had a clue what it was going to be about.
If she gets suspended for a tournament or 2 it will allow her to heal her injuries, as she's currently injured anyways.

Until Serena retires i don't think she has the slightest chance to win again. And the fresh blood like Halep and Bouchard all seems more talented than her as well.

Re: The official Tennis thread
Milos Raonic is having an amazing 2016.
He's played 4 tournaments so far:
-Won Brisbane against world #3 Federer in the final
-Semifinals in AO losing to world #2 Murray
-Final in Indian Wells losing to world #1 Djokovic
-Quarterfinal in Miami Masters 1000 - In Progress
With Roger being injured and Murray and Stan being meh, and Nadal being shite as always, Raonic has been clear second best player on tour so far this year.
