Why aren't Atletico accused of playing "Anti-Football"?

They don't value possession & are an extremely direct team, they prefer to make games scrappy affairs, they are heavily reliant on the counter-attack & most importantly Simeone plays with a low defensive block. Usually teams with these characteristics are derided but even Barcelona fans have no problem with their tactics.

If I had a nickel for everytime I heard the phrase "Park the Bus" since Chelsea's heorics in 2012 it'd be me instead of Icardi in my avatar yet people are far more accepting of this Atletico side.

I think people are willling to brush it off on account of them being a classic underdog story. That being said, they do score a fair amount (they've scored 72 goals in the league, the third highest and far more than 4th highest sevilla at 61) so while they park it they don't really play anti-football.

In my opinion the difference between parking it and anti-football is that one is a legitimate strategy whereas the other one renounces all options to score that defeats the purpose of football (to entertain).

They're a counter attacking side not a bus parking side. The defend deep and aggressively if they need to, but they still attack plenty too. They're passing and movement is easy on the eye and entertaining. The way they press and defend is actually pretty entertaining too compared to most sides that sit back.

As said already, it's because Atletico are underdogs, so people are more accepting. Also they don't just put everyone behind the ball and hope for the best, it's more of a tactical thing the way they defend.

Agreed, this chav park-the-bus football is an embarrassment. And then when Chelsh*t have Mouthrinho in charge Chelsh*t will only play 9-0-1 guerrilla football and he celebrates this mafia football. Whenever he talks about football it's like opening a toilet. He's a disgusting eye-poker and his Russian mafia team are only parking planes.

Got to be the most childish poster on this forum. Can you try to put well thought out posts together sometimes?

Anyway, Athletico are basically "underdogs" so they get a pass. And I'm not buying that "they score goals" talk. We create enough chances every match to average 3 goals a game. All you need to do is look at the last match against Swansea. Should have ended like 6-0 but ended 1-0 because of some incredibly shit finishing. Been the case for the entire season.

The times when we've played some attacking football, we've been quite unlucky in the CL and we've had to deal with it so I couldn't care less what anyone thinks about how we won the 2012 CL tbh.

Chelsea were not considered "Anti-football" for most of their Abramovitch time except in their CL campaign., especially in the way they beat both Barca and Bayern.

A simple comparison between Chelsea vs. Barca and Atleti vs. Barca is sufficient to understand why no one labels Atleti as a park-the-plane team.

That being said, kudos for Chelsea for playing to their strength and winning the CL. It was probably the weakest Chelsea squad to win it from all the ones who played in the CL (with the exception of last year), but they stuck together and won.

Atleti not only play a different style, but they are also more similar to BVB than Chelsea tbh.

Firstly there's no such thing as anti-football.

Secondly there is difference between packing your box with the entire team like Chelsea did and what Atletico did.

Look at that average positions graphic ffs... Felipe Luis a f*cking LB is beyond the half way line comfortably.

Atletico are very aggressive, organised and direct but they do not play anything like what " anti-football" supposedly is.

According to the logic of this thread, Dortmund in their peak were supposedly anti-football as well Laughing

even though atletico dont go for park as much as chelski and are comparatively more attack minded, at the end of the day it is this above reason why people are not complaining. Let them get to chaksi's level and then if they play in this same manner. I am sure it wont be the same then when it comes to the support.
