Chelsea - Definitely look the strongest .But have gone transition since winning the CL  years ago.Still will progress deep into the CL imo

Arsenal - Think the problem is Wenger. Dont think he is as good a manager for Europe as he is for League.Even at their peak(early 2000s) struggled in ENurope under Wenger

United - Moyesification

Agreed

they got those draws cause they came second in their group.

of course the OP has a point. This is the 3rd year running EPL teams have performed poorly. No team in the last 8 last season and only 1 in the season before.

They also got unfortunate group draws too.

I wouldn't say they're doing bad. As mentioned earlier in the thread, Arsenal/Man City faced teams that were superior to them. They'd most likely win if they faced Galatasaray or Schalke. So yeh, it depends on the draw.

Although last time they met, Schalke didn't do too bad against Arsenal.

Sorry but this luck of the draw stuff is kinda crap, epl top teams just aren't that good as the media present them, when its was all english finals etc....., the wanking about the epl was sky high all pundits said its was the best league due to how good english teams were in the cl, didn't see anyone talking about the luck of the draw or other teams being past it/transition/managers etc, they were just the best.

So I will go with epl is overrated and some fans/ media needs to except that the purple patch is done and they need improve the football being played throughout the league.

Top teams in England are still some of the best sides in the world. Does this mean they're invincible?

No.

But their quality is unquestionable.

All i see how is one long, angry obsessed rant about the PL Laughing

There is nothing in your post which counters why the draw is crap, just one long meaningless rant.

When 2 of your teams play Barcelona and Bayern Munich in the 2nd round it quite obviously is to do with the draw.

Any team in the world who are not Barcelona and Bayern would struggle to KO them, including Barca and Bayern themselves if they played each other in the 2nd round then they wouldn't be as successful as they are.

Like it or not the draw plays a big part and always has..... in Chelsea's first Mou tenure they were knocked out by Liverpool in the semi's and the following year were knocked out by Barca in the 2nd round.

They didn't get any worse, they were just unlucky enough to run into the best team in the world that season.

Carry on ranting though.

Why is "drawing Barca" an excuse now? We are shit. Real Sociedad wiped the floor with us. City should be ashamed that they didn't even score a goal against us on homeground tbh. Almeria scores goals against us in Camp Nou. Laughing

These "t'was the draw" excuses go for all leagues so it's cancelled out.

Point is, minus Chelsea's fluky run in 2012, EPL teams have not performed as well as the EPL hype would suggest they should perform in the Champions League.

What if Bayern go knocked out by Arsenal and Barca got knocked out by City? Would EPL fanboys say "oh this doesn't prove the EPL is superior the other league just had a tough draw".  Laughing It seems like a win win situation. EPL teams get knocked out "tough draw". EPL teams succeed "best league in the world!!!!".  Laughing

Was it the tough draw that made Man Utd get knocked out early in the CL while they were winning the EPL.  Laughing

Except those draws are tougher for both City and Arsenal than they are for Munich and Barca

lol if arsenal and city got such hard draws who else could they have gotten?

psg or real madrid - wow that's much easier. i'm sure none of you would be complaining about a tough draw if you lost to these two teams with some of the best and most expensive players in the world.

bvb - "we were unlucky with the draw, we got last year's finalist".

atletico - possibly the lowest rated team out of the group winners beisdes man u. but really we all know by now this is a seriously good team and capable of putting out just about any of the other remaining teams left. another "we got a tough draw team".

soon you're just naming too many teams to have the excuse "unlucky with a tough draw". what do you expect from the knockouts of the european cup.

City got Barca and went down to 10 men, weren't playing bad before the red
Arsenal got Bayern and were playing very well before the red and penalty
Man United hired Moyes and needs to rebuild.
Chelsea will progress passed Galatasaray, 1-1 there is a good result

EPL is still a great league and the teams are quality.

Have to agree.Sure luck plays a part once in a while in terms of the draw when you finish 2nd in your groups but you cant say these teams(especially Arsenal) were 'unfortunate' or 'unlucky' when they themselves had a big chance to decide their own fate.

Or maybe we shouldnt be having high expectations about Arsenal in the first place ?

I dont really see it as an excuse, its just the reason, or the answer to the question.

Why are the PL teams doing badly? Well because 2 of them are facing teams they arent as good as.

Dont sound like an excuse to me, just the answer.

Everything is an excuse to these people

The titanic sank because it had a giant hole in it = Ha! Barcelona play with a giant hole upfront all the time! Excuse Laughing

That murder victim died because his heart was cut out of his body = Ha! Munich have been playing without a heart AND a soul for years now! Excuse Laughing

I couldn't afford a better house because I haven't got the money = Ha! Barcelona are severely in debt, yet managed to buy Neymar....... Excuse Laughing
