Away Goals should not count as twice anymore
What are the reasonable argument to keep that way anymore ?
The first match is usually the most important as the 2nd one's tactics is all based on the 1st result. It'd be more fun if the rule could disappear .

Re: Away Goals should not count as twice anymore
then there'd also be more overtime/penalties which would favour the team to play at home last

Away teams would also play more defensively, because there is a clear home advantage in football.
The rule is fine.

Well, even right now you have one of the 2 sides playing more defensively anyway (the away team as well as the home team)
For instance for all the games played last week , the tie is already done. The teams that won might just PTB and counter.
And teams are already playing 1/2 of the season away.

I agree. It's a good rule, no need to change it.
What I don't get however is why people keep saying 'away goals count twice' as that's clearly not how this works.

It's an awful rule. I get that in theory it's supposed to encourage attacking football by rewarding away sides that try to score but it seems that it has the opposite effect. Plenty of potentially exciting games turn out dull when instead of needing a goal to tie teams need two to win. I would rather have extra time and penalties.

Yeah. Home teams park the bus to keep a clean sheet at home and play for a score draw away from home now. Mehdrid 2011, City last week.

No more overtime, just start with the penalties after 180 minutes. It's enough time to prove you deserve to go through. No need for another 30 minutes.
Is there a home advantage in a penalty shootout? Don't know of any stats about that.

isn't that the way it should be? Playing at home should be an advantage, but now it isn't. You draw at home, you loose.. You draw away, you win.. That just feels wrong.. Home/away teams reverse roles because of this. When fans buy tickets to see their team play at home in the CL, they should see teams be able to play their game.. Rather than cautiously, which is what teams have to do because of it.

Exactly my point. Hometeams park the bus or defend because you let one goal in and you might have to score twice away. Nowadays 0-0 at home '' is better '' than trying to score 1 or 2 goals.

To answer your question at the end statistics show that whoever kicks first is usually more likely to win the shootout. The venue doesn't seem to be a huge factor based on the results, if anything some of the most high profile CL shootouts have seen the home team lose such as in;
Roma vs Liverpool in Rome
Barcelona vs Steua Bucharest's Duckdam in Seville
Bayern vs Chelsea at the Allianz
Madrid vs Bayern at the Bernabeu
Chelsea vs United in Russia etc

Re: Away Goals should not count as twice anymore
The thing that should change is going to extra time in the 2nd leg. This gives an unfair advantage for the home team in the return leg

Re: Away Goals should not count as twice anymore
Away goals are fine as it is. However the one major flaw is after regulation the away goals still counting. Once the 90 minutes are out away goals should not be a factor any more.
Say first leg ends X 1-1 Y
Second leg after regulation time it's Y 1-1 X and in extra time X score another goal Y 1-2 X, now all of a sudden Y has to get 2 goals to win. Once regulation time is over that becomes really unfair on the home team.

Only change that needs to happen is that the away goal rule should no longer hold once in ET.

Exactly, that's my thought
I remind still Tottenham-Inter 3-0, Inter-Tottenham 3-0 (4-1)
