We don't need a 30 goal striker. We have a 20 goal RW and a 15 goal Midfielder along with 3-4 other players who can chip in 10 goals in the likes of Cazorla, Oxlade and Podolski. If we spend on a LW in the likes of SES/Draxler then 15+ goals coming in from there too

We need a better version of Giroud. Mandzukic is that. His pressing is unbelievable from the top. He is incredible stamina, very good pace. Links up fantastically well. Can definitely score 20 goals a season.

Granted he is a bit under whelming considering that Bayern don't want him anymore but look at our options. We don't have any.

mmm fair point  hmm

considering the lack of world class strikers available in the market at the moment if we can pick him up for maybe 10 to 13 million it might be decent business. This striker search would be easy if Falcao and Cavani never signed for oil barons  Mad

Great Leader Sprucenuce wrote:I never said Sagna is bad technically.

Only that offensively he's not going to do anything, he's fairly decent at keeping the ball so he's obviously not bad technically.

But he can't do anything beyond the half way line, his defending is nowhere near as good as it used to be anyway.

Ribery made him his bitch on numerous occasions at the Allianz and Alaba got in behind him with regularity.

He's a great player but not a once in a generation RB you can't replace like some on here act like he is.

Lol. Ok.

Diego Costa does everything Mandzukic does (thuggery), plus is more creative, has better link-up play, better movement, faster, isn't a traffic cone, better finisher, scores more goals, did I mention that he isn't a traffic cone like Mandzukic? We'll be wasting much of our transfer budget for a guy who is not much better than Giroud....

Hell I'd take Dzeko over Mandzukic, Jackson Martinez or even Walcott upfront.

From Jeremy Wilson on Telegraph:

The AST have called for a freeze on ticket prices and estimate that there will be cash reserves of around £140 million by June this year.It is understood that around £100 million would be available for squad strengthening, although this figure includes wages as well as transfer fees.On a signing of Mesut Özil’s magnitude, the wages over the five years of a contract would amount to a similar commitment to the transfer fee.It all means that Arsenal can afford a world-class striker in the £40 million price range this summer and still make one or two cheaper but substantial additions in other positions.Arsenal now accept that it would be futile to renew their interest in Luis Suárez but are watching other leading strikers across Europe, including Mario Mandzukic, Jackson Martínez, Julian Draxler and Diego Costa.Arsenal will also continue to spend on keeping the existing core of their squad intact. Per Mertesacker and Tomas Rosicky signed new deals this month while Aaron Ramsey and Santi Cazorla are also in advanced talks to commit themselves to new contracts. The only first-team regular whose future is in real doubt is Bacary Sagna, who will now wait until the end of the season before deciding whether to sign a new contract amid the potential of a longer deal at Galatasaray.

underestimate Mandzukic at your own risk. In fact, he was terrorizing you with his pressing, plus he is VERY strong in the box.

Totally agreed... Bayern have the luxury of playing Mandzukik because their all other players are really good at footballing aspects. Do you guys really think Mandzukik's pressing and high stamina is gona make a difference for Arsenal? like making runs to the box and slick link up play on the ground? i dont see it in him...isnt that the reason Giroud is criticized any way?. Will be a total dumb move to go for glorified Giroud.

Standard Liege hotshot Michy Batshuayi keen on summer Arsenal move

Many things can happen but I am someone who has ambitions. I want to progress as quickly as possible. I’ll make a choice with my agents and my family. I must consider my choices carefully.

‘I have not yet signed anywhere yet.

‘I am interested in the German and English championships. They are physical and technical championships.

‘Personally, I like Arsenal. There is a good philosophy at the club where trust is given to young players. This is a very technical team playing good football, and since I was little this was a team who I liked.’

I agree that I'll so take Diego Costa over Mandzukic.
But with that last line you went too far.

It would be nice to get both, and send Giroud back to France to keep him away from English girls. cheers

Watched Diego Costa's debut for Spain against chile, for someone who cost so much. Technically he is very meh, he is not even the best striker in his league.

Don't judge him just on that game.

Watch more Atletico games, mate. You'll get it.
The guy is good. Definitely better than Giroud.
Why does he have to be the best striker in his league? He is still good.

Is Giroud the barometer to measuring how good a striker is or something. Well Torres is better than Giroud might as well sign him now.Diego Costa is good but not worth what his club is asking for him.

There must be other strikers in Europe that can come in and not cost crazy money, Dutch or German league we can get a quality striker. Is not that hard to find a striker better than Giroud.

Well. Erm. We're obviously going to compare with what we already have.

Don't take backwards steps. I'd rather Giroud alone than all of Chelsea's strikers

Costa looks affordable but i dont know with agent situations and such if that would stop it happening

if it aint possible i would offer 50M for Reus and try him up top ergh cant do worse than current situation even if it looked waste or didnt work we would have 2 genuine sources for goals from either flank Theo/Marco unlike when Cazorla or draxler play there

Don't kid yourself, Raptor.

There's a reason Mourinho doesn't want any of them there next year besides Eto'o maybe. Schurrle is a winger anyway.

Ba and Torres are miles beneath Giroud, hate how everyone assumes because players are at Chelsea they're just better.

id take Torres, with the 4 million chances we create a game, he would score 25 goals over 50 so games.

Bias aside, Torres is done at big teams. There will be things he won't lose and that he hasn't lost like his technique and his movement to a degree but he lost that Suarez-esque killer instinct, I think Chelsea fans will back me up on this.

Look at them statistically over 90 mins. There's just no comparison, and I hate having to use stats to back up my points but, really, I feel people are being fickle just because it's Giroud.

I like Giroud and I acknowledge that we definitely need someone better to play/compete with him but Torres, really? You're having a laugh.
