Re: Winter Transfer Deadline Day Rumours
Robert Pires has backed Arsenal's pursuit of Julian Draxler, arguing that the Schalke starlet would fit in "perfectly" at the Emirates.
The Gunners have sent a team of officials to Germany in the hope of negotiating a deal for the 20-year-old attacking midfielder before the close of the January transfer window on Friday.
Former Arsenal ace Pires is hoping that Arsene Wenger gets his man as he feels that Draxler would be a fine addition to the Premier League leaders' line-up.
"Julian is a good player," the Frenchman told SPOX.com. "He's young and has a lot of potential for development.
"When I watch him play, I always think that he fits perfectly with Arsenal's style of football.
"I can see him playing well on the left-hand side or in attack. He could really strengthen the team."
Meanwhile, Pires admitted that he was touched by Wenger's recent statement that he sees similarities between the World Cup winner and current Arsenal star Mesut Ozil.
"It's a huge honour that I'm mentioned in the same breath as Mesut," the now-retired 40-year-old enthused.
"He plays for the German national team, he played for Real Madrid. As a playmaker, he's one of the best in the world."

Re: Winter Transfer Deadline Day Rumours
Manchester United boss David Moyes has confirmed that both Fabio and Wilfried Zaha are to join Cardiff City.
The 23-year-old Brazilian, who has made just three appearances for the Premier League champions this season and was sent off in the club’s FA Cup third-round exit to Swansea City earlier this month, is moving to the Welsh capital as part a permanent transfer.
However, England Under-21 international Zaha, who only arrived at Old Trafford last summer, will only be spending the remainder of the season in the Welsh capital.
"We're delighted for Fabio because he has been a great servant," Moyes told MUTV. "His brother [Rafael] is doing a great job for us here as well.
"We wish him well. He had one or two options but, in the end, we felt we couldn't get him enough games.
“I said to the players, if you feel I'm not getting you enough games, come and see me. Fabio felt that so he's got a move to Cardiff.”
"With Wilfried Zaha, I'd said to him during the summer that we wanted to get him games. If he played, then great, but if he couldn't, we'd get him out on loan,” the Scot explained.
“We had one or two offers for him but just felt Cardiff, at this moment in time, might be the right club.
“With Ole going there as well, he knows how the club works here and exactly what we do with the players so hopefully it will be a good move for Wilf."

Re: Winter Transfer Deadline Day Rumours
It's not that bad to sell a 28-year-old Cabaye for £20m. If he refused to play in August when Arsenal were bidding for him, he'd prolly go on hunger strike if he wasn't sold to PSG. Especially now that Newcastle are in the same situation as Southampton, not a great deal to play for. Re-invest wisely (perhaps in the summer) and try to build an even stronger team for next season.

Re: Winter Transfer Deadline Day Rumours
AC Milan striker Mario Balotelli has rubbished speculation linking him with Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.
It had been claimed in the English press that Blues boss Jose Mourinho was keen on a reunion with a player that he worked with during his time in charge of Milan.
However, Balotelli told Rai Sport: "They put out something about me every day. Nothing is true."
The Italy international also dismissed the prospect of a move to the Parc des Princes.
"Me to PSG? Absolutely not," Balotelli declared.

Re: Winter Transfer Deadline Day Rumours
Giovanni Elber expects the seemingly unsettled Mario Mandzukic to still be at Bayern Munich when the January transfer window closes on Friday.
The Croatia international was axed from the Bavarians' squad for last weekend's Bundesliga meeting with Borussia Monchengladbach for a perceived lack of effort in training.
It has been speculated that Mandzukic has been upset by the decision to recruit Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski for next season and is now actively seeking a move away from the Allianz Arena, but former Bayern striker Elber does not see it that way.
"When you play for Bayern, one knows that each season new players come in," the Brazilian mused. "I, personally, do not think he wants to go just because someone else is coming.
"He's a great player. Mandzukic just needs one chance and the ball is in the net."
Elber admitted, though, that the striker's role is in danger of becoming redundant at Bayern under Guardiola, given the former Barcelona boss' fondness for a 'false nine'.
"The way that Bayern play, you don't need a centre-forward," the now-retired 41-year-old mused. "Midfielders have so much more freedom.

Re: Winter Transfer Deadline Day Rumours
Pep Guardiola has given Manchester United fans everywhere the chance of more transfer window joy by declaring Toni Kroos could disappear from Bayern Munich in January like a cheap magic trick.
Guardiola said on Tuesday: "He is important. But things can change quickly in football. Here today, there tomorrow."
______________________________________________
Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos insists he is keeping his options open, after being linked with a move to Manchester United.
The Germany international has 18 months left on his current deal, and speculation intensified over his future after United boss David Moyes watched him in action last week - accompanied by one of Kroos's representatives.
The 24-year-old has already turned down the offer of a new deal at the Allianz Arena and he is seemingly in no rush to have dialogue with the club.
"I am unable to rule anything out," he told kicker-Sportmagazin.
"I am under contract with Bayern Munich (until June 2015).
Actually there are yet no further talks (regarding a new contract) scheduled. I will therefore fully focus on the second half of the season.
"There are worse situations in life. I play for a top club, and under a top coach. I am pleased, and sometime in the future a decision will be made."

Re: Winter Transfer Deadline Day Rumours
Juventus are considering a January swoop for Southampton striker Dani Osvaldo is looking likely to leave St Mary's before the winter window shuts in just over three days' time after he was involved in a training ground incident that reportedly involved him attacking team-mate Fonte.
Osvaldo was subsequently suspended by the Premier League club for two weeks with manager Mauricio Pochettino conceding that he "doesn't know" if the 28-year-old will still be part of his squad at the start of February.
Serie A leaders Juve are interested in taking the controversial forward back to Italy, initially on loan with a view to a permanent deal in the summer.
Any potential move for Osvaldo is likely to hinge on the immediate future of Mirko Vucinic, however, with the Montenegro international keen to leave Turin having struggled for regular playing time under Antonio Conte.
Juve are keen to resurrect the mooted swap deal for Inter midfielder Fredy Guarin after talks had broken down following a backlash from furious Nerazzurri fans who do not want to see one of the club's prized assets depart.
Goal understands a meeting has been scheduled to renegotiate the deal, with a potential Vucinic exit clearing the path for Osvaldo to make the move to the Turin giants.
Conte's Juve currently sit at the top of the Serie A table and have been drawn against Trabzonspor in the last 32 of the Europa League, a competition Osvaldo would be eligible to feature in.
