Whole team did not perform badly considering Pepe, Marcelo, Carvajal and Jese had commendable performances.

Pepe was hoofing all night which led Modric not being on the ball as much and us constantly rushing attacks. He was good defensively though. Same with Ramos.

lmao, pepe was another one that performed better than modric, so keep saying he was hoofing because it highlights just how far off the mark you are.

Modric tonight showed us all of his limitations as a midfielder. He displayed his inability to create space for himself and for his team mates in pocket of spaces, his ability to think the game before he receives the ball, and displayed tunnel vision too many times forcing him to get himself cornered when in possession. He was just lost.

Sadly, none of those are attributes that elite midfielders have. As much as we can praise his quality and his hustle, his lack of vision and intelligence is something that we warned against, and unfortunately, in a game like today, it's what we needed most.

He only had the ball a few times anyway and he wasn't the only one to blame. Bilbao had like 60% possession and half the time we just rushed attacks, tried risky through balls and hoofed. Pepe, fair enough did well defensively, but his distribution as usual was poor. We've seen he can pass when he wants to, but any pressure and it's an instant hoof. If we actually played proper possession instead of sitting back, then everyone would have played much better. Similar to how we did at the start of both halves.

well that's the thing MT, you need a guy in midfield that can impose the tempo and rhythm, and while Herrerra was doing that for his team, Modric was flopping.

anyway, modric never had that kind of quality, so i am not surprised. It's just that Modric isnt the player you seem to think he is MT.

pepe wasnt trying to play long balls all the time anyway, many times we tried passing from the back. It's both a team failure as much as failure from players like Di maria and Modric in midfield.

But then again, i know players who would have come deep to ask for the ball and to impose themselves on the game, modric, never really did that.

I know what you mean though. There is just something missing in the way we play but I just can't put my finger on it. weird

He was better against Atletico. He's just an all action midfielder. He's not going to stand there in one position all game and spray passes about.

However I think he needs to dribble less at times, he needs to anticipate better and also needs to pass first time.

Thing is he's capable of picking out good passes, he can pass first time and he can anticipate well, but he doesn't do it consistently.

Then again no one in our squad is perfect. Everyone has something that makes them unique. That uniqueness overrides the weaknesses.

Pfffttt...he ain't even the best Croat in La Liga.
