Best midfielder I've ever seen, the ultimate box-to-box player. Well deserved, finally getting recognition at 33.

Congrats to him, totally deserved.

He wont IMO. Giving him the UEFA Player of the year award was sort of a compensation for him. It'll be between Messi and Ronaldo again and the latter looks likely to win another.

If the best UEFA player is Modric then by logic he must win ballon dor. Because CR did nothing outside UEFA competition

a bit sad really, they were teammates for years, it's very disrespectful to someone who assisted him to win all these CLs. But CR is a rather petty player so this was expected. i hear that he had planned to attend the event, and his private photographer even attended to grab some snaps, but at the last minute he did not show up. I would assume that he found out about the winner the day of, and decided not to go anymore.

I thought he had a better chance for ballon d'or over this. If he wins this them it's pretty much obvious for him to win ballon d'or, as Ronaldo did nothing outside of CL and did nothing in the semis and final of CL.

Ballon d'or is back to being voted by journalists only. So it's not so much a popularity contest and players that actually deserve it, have a better chance of winning it.

Also Juventus isn't a big enough club to be at to win a Ballon D'or.

IMO once you go to serie A that should hinder winning the ballon d'or chances of the player significantly. It is the 4th or 5thbest league only.

If Modric went to inter. His chances to win it would diminish.

No more fake accolades for the fake player. It's amazing how much power Madrid has on Uefa though, can decide draws, refs and the media however they like.

And anyway "Uefa player of the year " has nothing to do with " Balon d'or ".
in 2010 Milito got this award, for example.

Ronaldo and his camp really should have some class. Forget the fact that Modric had an amazing CL and WC campaigns. Forget the fact that he's equally, if not more, deserving of this award than anybody else.

Forget all that and focus on this: Ronaldo has won this award many times, Two of them in a row the last Two seasons, yet he can't find it in his heart not to disrespect his former teammate and friend, who by the way was a major contributor to all his BdO wins? You've got to be a special kind of hateful and selfish to act this way and let your agent and family question Modric's win.

As of now, I'm rooting for Modric to win the BdO. It would be hilarious To see Ronaldo's grandma and gardener join the fold as well.
