Rate Your Summer Signings
How would you rate your summer signings based on their contribution and performance over the last 6 months or so.
To give a criteria
A ( you can have A+ or A- if you want) = Excellent
B = Really good but not excellent
C = Alright, not bad not that good.
D = meh, bit of a let down.
E = wtf is this shit
F = Mesbah
___________________________________________
Arsenal
Yaya Sanogo
He has played like 10 minutes. Wasn't expected to score 40 goals by now but wasn't expected to be this injured ( well we were told but yeah.. ) However since he hasn't really played AND flopped so wouldn't down to F
Grade = D
Mesut Özil
Özil has been as good as we expected of him. It's his first season in the Premier league and despite that he has shown us his class and why he is one of the best in his positions. The best thing he has done is to raise everyone's level around him. The team looks better with him on the pitch. They play better with him and the areas where we struggled last year, Özil has improved us in those areas. However he has been a bit inconsistent. Sometimes it often looks like the league is too physical for him, but to be fair to him he has never given up.
I would give him A-
Viviano N/A
Flamini
Has been very good. Really good at times. Does his job. Adds security in midfield. Was a good signing by Arsene
Grade B

Re: Rate Your Summer Signings
Tevez A-
Been a huge upgrade for us in the league, takes the goalscoring burden off of our midfield. Already outscored our most prolific striker from our unbeaten season and has done so in about 1/3rd of the apps.
However he's not an A or an A+ because like most of our team he failed to produce in Europe. We conceded too many goals from individual errors at the back after a sloppy start to the season, but we were equally diasppointing upfront
Llorente B
Took him a while to settle in, he's not quite fully sharp yet but as a free signing he's looking like the real deal. Offers us a new dimension because of his size and hold up play. Again, an improvement from our old strike force. For no signing fee at all.
Ogbonna C+
Tbh he'd be a 'B' rating if he played more or if he cost less. Apart from the odd mistake in his first few apps, he's really looked solid. Looks better every time I see him. He was quite pricey so he wasn't some sort of bargain deal.
Rubinho - LOL
Saved 3 penalties for us in pre-season, probably earns like £20 and a kebab per week so he's pretty much a dirt cheap but experienced emergency GK.

Re: Rate Your Summer Signings
Neymar A
His overall performance was great from the start, recently he started to become more effective in front of goal and already has 11 goals. He has the 2nd most Barcelona goals this season (11, behind Messi & Pedro 14) and 2nd most assists 10 (2nd behind Cesc 11) and Most goals+assists (21).
Also, Neymar created the most goal-scoring chances for Barcelona this season (37, 1 ahead of Cesc 36). In addition to his impressive work rate.
EDIT: Most important, Neymar has been decisive in the big games against Atletico, Real Madrid, Espanyol and Villareal...

Re: Rate Your Summer Signings
Illarramendi - B
He's done well whenever he's played and definitely looks like he can take Alonso's spot in the future. He shouldn't start ahead of Modric though, since he doesn't offer as much going B2B and lacks agility and dribbling.
Isco - B+
Had a good start, but he's cooled down and has done alright since then. Hopefully he starts more games in midfield. Just needs to dribble less at times.
Carvajal - B
He gets better by every game. However I can see Ancelotti still opting for Arbeloa in the big games due to experience and having balance in the fullback areas.
Bale - C+
Despite his injury problems, Bale's managed to score a decent amount of goals and also has some assists. Still has a lot to do to justify his price tag however.

Re: Rate Your Summer Signings
Adem Ljajic - B+
Could be an A if he makes more of an impact as a starter than just as a super sub. His performance against Catania was his best as not only a starter, but as a Roma player however. Not quite a winger and not quite a playmaker or striker. He's tough to nail down as a player, but this suits us well.
Lukasz Skorupski - Incomplete
Not seen a single minute of action along with Lobont as De Sanctis has had it on lock with very little to do. I see a loan in this lad's future. Can better judge from that.
Gervinho - A-
If he puts away more of his chances (which he probably won't ever do a pro player), he could be an A+ player. His form pre-injury was ridiculous and it's good to see him getting back in that groove. Needs to take the proverbial Arsenal shirt off and leave it off though or he'll keep missing sitters like he did this weekend.
Mehdi Benatia - A+
What more can you want from a defender in the modern game? Benatia has done everything and he's done it in excellent fashion. He's had a few hiccups with cards and injury, but he's always been an assured and reliable presence at the back. He's as much a talisman for us this season as Totti and DDR and that's why he's 3rd choice captain (wore the armband once Totti came off v Catania) in just his first season with us. Amazing signing.
Morgan De Sanctis - B+
We knew what we were getting in the summer and we've seen quite a bit of that so far. Batman is indeed a great shot-stopper, but what keeps him a level below Buffon is his knack for bad brainfarts at inopportune times. We've seen that at least once this first-half of the season and it cost us points. Beyond that, he's had very little to do behind a defense that has been nigh on impenetrable for most of the campaign thus far.
Kevin Strootman - A+
Such a complete player. I never doubted that DDR wouldn't leave, but what I did doubt was our ability to get the best out of a player of similar style and skill in Strootman with both of them in the same 11. Very pleased to have been wrong in that. The Dutch Jesus is an outstanding mixture of steel and silk. He knows when to make his runs, when to pass, when to shoot and how to track his markers and help out defensively. A highly intelligent player and well worth the 17m paid for him.
Tin Jedvaj - Incomplete
Signing a 17-year old for 5m tends to raise a few heads and when a player like that comes into a squad, he as well as the fans expect for an impression to be made. Unfortunately, we haven't gotten to see much of Jedvaj since the season began, but that's honestly a good thing considering how well we've defended. He simply hasn't been needed along with Alessio Romagnoli. As the season comes near its end, we may see more of him, but for now he remains a youthful presence on the bench.
Maicon - B
Would've been foolish to expect that we were signing the Maicon of Mourinho's all-conquering Inter side of 4 years ago. That player is long gone and won't be coming back. Gareth Bale made sure of that. What we do have on our hands here is probably the best RB to wear a Roma jersey since Cafu almost 10 years ago. Regardless of his form, Dougie Fresh's class was never in question. He's proven himself a massive upgrade on any player we've had in that position and he's hungry as well. Jonathan may well be his successor for Brazil, but I expect to see Maicon in that XI come the summer. And it'll be well deserved based on his Roma form.

So poor....we should include youth players just to make it seem reasonable.

Re: Rate Your Summer Signings
Originally I thought C because we got Nerman and he has proved to be a great signing. But even Free Cat's grandmother knew we needed a CB and we didn't purchase one, nor are we planning to purchase one in winter, and yet we didn't go for one. Add to that the fact that Nerman's transfer now has us being indicted for tax fraud (which it probably is) and the grade quickly falls to D.

I thought/think the grade is for players signed, not the overall window. More about the individuals than the overall business done.

Re: Rate Your Summer Signings
AC Milan
Andrea Poli
Had an excellent start to his Milan career where he was our best player in the first month of the season. A great pick for just 6 million. However, he has not been able to match his early season form in latter parts of the season owing to injury and mismanagement by Allegri who favoured Muntari over him for defensive grit and steel. He also adequately covered for RB position when all our fullbacks were injured and was still one of our better midfielders for the entire season. Age is on his side too.
Grade B
Kaka
Kaka arrived for free on deadline day and instantly got injured for a month. He became Milan's best player after his return from injury and gave inspired performances in both Champions League and Serie A. Some poor games (eg: Inter) stop him from getting an A.
Grade B
Jherson Vergara
N/A
Alessandro Matri
Was always against this transfer as our forward line was the last place we needed reinforcements on. This pos has given absolutely shocking performances. Missing sitters, misplacing passes, mistiming runs, absolute waste of 12 million who will hopefully be scrubbing toilets at Milanello now that Pazzini is back. Misses out on an F because of one sole goal against Parma.
Grade E
Cristian Zapata
No comments. Contemplated suicide because of this man. Misses out on lower than F because he got 3 goals this season and had a good tackle on the Roma game.
Grade F
Matias Silvestre
Has given ok performances when he played. Has been far better than Zapata and his Inter self and there was no fee involved in getting him. Deserves more game time over that Colombian abomination.
Grade C
Valter Birsa
Gave two match winning performances at the CAM role but has been quiet since. His performance level has dropped at the wing and playing beside Kaka. Once again, no fee involved in getting him.

Re: Rate Your Summer Signings
Saphir Taider - B
Has several apps already in a variety of positions in midfield, we all knew he was a jack of all trades but its still slighty dissapointing to see he doesn't excel at anything, he gets a B because i'm sure he had more to give at certain times.
Hugo Campagnaro - B
Started the season bossing, got injured an he seems to have come back a bit tamer, hope it doesn't do him in completely.
Mauro Icardi and Ishak Belfodil - C
Its hard to rate these kids since they've had little playing time. After seeing them both in action its unquestionable they both are class, however they need to both take a step up if they want to continue their Inter career.
Rolando - B+
Everyone expected him to be a so so sub and he's slowly earning a starting place. Better than expected.
Marco Andreolli - C
Underperformed when needed, dissapointing.
Wallace - N/A
Walter Mazzari - B
Started out with a bang but he hasnt been able to inspire the team on crucial games, its been a little heartbreaking.

Re: Rate Your Summer Signings
Simon Mignolet - A+
Big Mig is amazing. For far too long we were afraid to get rid of Reina because he once world class but Simon has been a breath of fresh air. He's saved us so many points this season. On his debut that penalty save against Stoke on the last minute was everything you could possibly say about him. He's been perfect. £9m bargain.
Mamadou Sakho - A-
Mama is fricking amazing. His potential is unreal, beast of a defender aerially and on the ground. He literally does not get beat in the air. You can tell he's a born leader and with time when his English gets better I have no doubt he'll be one of the leaders and captains of this team. Some small criticism of him would be that when he's on the ball and is pressured, he tends to panic and give the ball away in a dangerous position. He did take a bit of time to settled down, which was of course expected and his price of £18m was pretty steep, which is why he's not getting more than an A minus.
Kolo Toure - B+
He's been great for a free transfer. When Carra retired we lost a leader in the dressing room and Kolo has stepped into those shoes without missing a step. He's also brought in a winning mentality with him, being a two time PL champion. At the beginning of the season he was our best defender. The best thing about him, though, is his emotions on the field. He's so dedicated.
Iago Aspas - D
Sadly he's been hampered with an injury during the crucial part of his settling in the team, but even when he did play he was more often than not just a passenger. For £7m, outside of 1 assist, he hasn't done anything special. It would've been ok if he was younger or showed some sort of promise. But I just feel like he's not good enough to be a Liverpool player long term. Wish we'd just kept Borini instead of spending money on him.
Victor Moses - E+
Thank god it's a loan. He's f*cking terrible. Looks uninterested every time he plays these days. At first he thought he would just walk into our team and BR did give him a chance right away. But he looked like a headless chicken trying to bulldoze his way through defenses. Now he's benched hardcore and he looks like he doesn't give a shit. He's missed 3 very important sitters that could've won us extra points. He gets a plus because he did score one goal for us.
Aly Cissokho - F
If there was anything lower than F, he'd get it. I can't believe he's a footballer. Terrible terrible terrible player. He's so bad that we've used Flanagan (our youth teams RB) as an LB. Thank god he's only on loan.
Luis Alberto - N/A
I like him a lot and he does look promising. However his price was too steep at £6.8m. It's very clear that he's not ready to be playing at a huge club like Liverpool just yet, even though he does have potential to do so in the future. He's been getting poverty minutes which he's been showing glimpses of promise in, so I guess he'll be one for the future.
Tiago Ilori - N/A
Similar to Luis Alberto. We paid £7m for him and sadly not ready yet. In fact, the worst part is he hasn't even made his debut yet. He has played for our reserves and does look promising though so should be another one for the future.

If there was anything lower than F, he'd get it. I can't believe he's a footballer. Terrible terrible terrible player. He's so bad that we've used Flanagan (our youth teams RB) as an LB. Thank god he's only on loan.
is he really that bad? he was decent for us, but then again i'm used to seeing guardado or bernat at lb so my standards may be slightly off...
on topic... pabon - C, he's played relatively well, but still not sure if he was worth getting into the weird player-ownership investment scheme
postiga - Z, because F isn't quite bad enough... for maybe 2 mil extra we could have had villa, plus even a cardboard cutout of villa would be more effective as a striker

Isco B
started off really well then faded alittle bit has started to pick up now after being moved to AM. Would still like him to add abit of creativity especially if DiMaria isn't playing because the front three don't have much creativity between them. I'd also like him to be alittle bit less of a ballhog. he is only 21 though so nothing to worry about I believe
Carvajal B+
We have that solution to our RB. Showed how good he is at balancing his game between attacking and defending. Carlo rotates between him and Arbeloa though and opts for Arbeloa in game he thinks we need to be solid defensively yet he still subs Carva in because it doesn't exactly work out. soon Arbeloa will be nothing more than a utility player. Also this whole rotating thing is hurting us about time Carlo figures that out
Casemiro C
Indifferent for me. he hasn't had many chances but in the chances he has had I have never thought ok thats it I don't want to see this guy again but then again I have not believed he could start just yet either
Illarramendi A-
Brilliant player. dare I say our best passer under pressure. Still lacks the long ball ability of Alonso but I have noticed he is starting to do them alot more nowadays. At first I was advocating for him to start next to Alonso because they should how good they were together but then I read about reprts that Xabi has turned down a new contract offer and I can understand why Illarra only plays in Xabis abscence now. just hope he can learn as much as possible before Xabi leaves
Bale B
Has had many goals and assists but he is easy to matk out of games. needs to demand the ball more. he is still new so ill forgive him

Agree with that.
Although I still think the Alberto and Ilori deals were unnessecary...

Götze B
Good but looking at his possibilities he can do a lot more
Kirchhoff C
Just played a few minutes so it's hard to tell, will get loaned to Schalke in winter to get more playing time.
Thiago B
Same as with Götze, some good moments but I think he can perform a lot better

He's over exaggerating to an extent, but he's been horrible.
Genuinely hoping he gets sent back to Valencia in January. He can't defend to save his life, he can't contribute in the way we play, his "crosses" if you want to call them that have been horrible... he basically just kicks them in the box and hopes that somebody gets on the end of them, reminds me of Stewart Downing with his tenure at Liverpool......

A bit harsh on Moses and Cissokho.. I'd give both of them a D. Agree with everything else though.McAgger wrote:Simon Mignolet - A+

I had totally forgotten about Ilori until this post lmfao. Unnecessary signing indeed.

I'd agree, however considering that both Götze and Thiago were injured for large spells of the first half, and that Kirchhoff hasn't started once but been solid everytime he came on I'd say it's too early to give grades.
Also, the fact that Götze scored the opener away at Dortmund make me want to give him an A just for that!!

Re: Rate Your Summer Signings
I was gutted Cissokho left Valencia, he was a good player for Los Che last season. But I don't think Valencia fans have missed him as much they thought initially. Bernat has been a revelation in my opinion.
