McMan was also not joking when he believed that England would make it over Italy

Honestly, I don't see whats so wrong with what he said there. He at no point insulted Manaus, like the mayor implied that he did. All he said was that the climate can make it quite difficult to play football there, especially if you are not used to the climate.McAgger wrote:Also this

Yeah, the current NT has made the Chilean people quite proud these past few years, even though we have not won anything..Betty La Fea wrote:I always maintained that Chile is a top 5 national team in the world.harhar11 wrote:Ohhhh, you think that we are legends in football!

Re: 2014 Brazil World Cup Group Stage Draw Discussion
Fairly balanced groups, except for Group E where France and Switzerland are the two teams who will certainly progress, all the other groups have, in my opinion, at least one spot which is fairly open.
Groups B (Spain, Chile, Netherlands), D (Uruguay, Italy, England) and G (Germany, Ghana, Portugal, USA) are the toughest groups in my opinion.
Group A is for Brazil to top, with all the other teams fighting for second spot. Same goes for Group F and Argentina.
Groups C and H are pretty balanced, but I believe that Columbia and Belgium will top them, with Russia coming second in Group H.
Can't wait

Re: 2014 Brazil World Cup Group Stage Draw Discussion
Although most of the groups are 'balanced,' some of them do not have nearly enough quality. Groups C and H are jokes compared to the others tbh; we will get at least 1/2 teams from each of those groups eliminated by whoever they face in the following round. In group H's case, I don't see any of the teams making it past the first knockout round - maybe Belgium if they get a lucky draw or play their socks off. Group E is poor too but at least there is France, who have the potential to be a contender. The ranking system screwed this up.

LOL at people thinking X team is automatically through to the knockouts or Y team has no chance.
It's like some of you are just totally ignoring the marathon qualifying process which saw the likes of France and Mexico who can lose to any team in this competition easily (and even the ones who didn't make it) or a team like Chile who IMO can navigate there group.
Playing in South America is going to be a massive shock to the system for a lot of the European teams and a massive bonus for the Central and South American teams. There will be a ton of shock results IMO. HEre are my unconventional picks at this point in time.

Re: 2014 Brazil World Cup Group Stage Draw Discussion
Most of your predictions could definitely happen, but Ecuador and Honduras over France and Switzerland is just something that I cannot see happening. One of the European teams could go out, but no way they both will. I honestly don't rate Honduras' chances at all, and this is after they crushed Canada 8-1 in qualifying ; the only way they can beat a team like France is if France beats themselves.
Germany will make it through as well.

Never knew Germany is so underrated..even the facts that they were consistently semifinalists in all big competitions for last few years cant save them from getting kicked out by Portugal,Ghana and USA according to some people ....

There are 3 certainties in life: death, taxes and Germany will progress past the World Cup group stage.

agreed. some people are putting way too much emphasis on the climate. everyone's aware that its a factor but no need to be silly about it. Although the 50s world cup was uruguay and brazil in the final.. the Europeans pulled of some decent results when facing south/central american sides.

Re: 2014 Brazil World Cup Group Stage Draw Discussion
How awesome would it be if Spain loses their first game to us due to complacency, fail to get more than two draws against Australia due to Australia's gritty defensive efforts and have a hard time with Chile. Doesn't matter if they would win their second game against us if we would just grind out results against Australia and get 4 points against Chile. First in the group.
Jokes aside, we are pretty *bleep* already and would have to really top the group to have any chance at all at getting to the quarter finals. Brazil at home turf is pretty much instaloss ktnxbye.

I just want things to go as expected by many up until the semis: Spain vs Argentina and Brazil vs Germany.
Spain takes care of Argentina and Brazil and Germany beat the crap out of each other and then Spain beats one of those two in the final. (Hopefully Brazil)
