Anyone else get the feeling we missed out a touch by not going for Nainggolan?
Creative Belgium CM who was looking for a team who could help his push for the WC. 19m Euros total cost as well.

Re: The Official Winter Transfer Thread
Radja Nainggolan, Just signed for Roma from Cagliari in a joint ownership deal, if Roma want full ownership they'll have to pay 19m over two seasons.
He is 25 and plays for Belgium but barely features which was due to playing for Cagliari, hence why he wanted to join a bigger team.
Quality player from what I've seen.

Not that it really matters, we can't get him anyway.

I'd take him for that, 6m more than the Sensation and miles better. Do it Jose!

And a lovely excerpt from that article:
He is not the only candidate although it appears unlikely Chelsea will sign Inter Milan’s Fredy Guarin.

I'll take a loss in that bet if it means we get Matic.

Re: The Official Winter Transfer Thread
Weren't benfica asking 40m at the start of the season? Around 20 seems fair.

Re: The Official Winter Transfer Thread
That is his buyout clause.
The Matic situation is not simple.
Benfica have high debt despite selling a lot of their better players recently. This is because many of those players (Coentrao, Ramires, DL4 and the likes) were all owned by third parties. Due to Matic arriving as part of the DL4 deal, he is solely owned by Benfica. They slapped a 40m release clause on him but because they need money they are desperate to sell him as selling him (even for less than selling, say Garay or Gaitan) would mean that Benfica gets more money as 100% of the sale goes to them instead of some of it going to third parties.
Basically, they want to offload him over other players as he will get them more money despite what anyone pays for their players.

Re: The Official Winter Transfer Thread
That is just the information I have gathered on the subject.
If it is true then we are in a fantastic position, as long as City or Utd don't jump in and bid for him too, in which case a bidding war would start.

A nice read on what Matic could bring to Chelsea.

The player would compliment our current under 30 options very well. With Ramires, he'd provide a pair that cover immense amounts of ground, challenge for every ball in the midfield, and allow the attacking band to worry less about covering for the pivot. With Mikel, he'd give Chelsea a physically imposing pair, capable of easily putting games to bed.

Re: The Official Winter Transfer Thread
I would also like to point out, with his passing ability, he and DL4 could make a great pivot against teams who are parking the bus.

Anything which sees Ramires on the bench, for howsoever short a time, gets an up-vote from me.

They are the options for Matic pairing long term.
All bring different things to the table.

Arsenal and Chelsea transfer battle over Saul Niguez of Atletico Madrid moves closer:
Arsenal and Chelsea are locked in a battle to sign Spain’s next superstar, Atletico Madrid attacking ace Saul Niguez, with the Gunners having already begun talks over the Spain Under-21 midfielder, currently on loan at Rayo Vallacano, but the Blues' top spy set to watch him play this weekend

At last, an attacking midfielder in our ranks

Chelsea in 'three-horse race' with Inter and Monaco for St Étienne defender Kurt Zouma, player's agent says:

"Serie A is an interesting destination, as are Inter, for the tactical growth of the lad."
"Of course he wouldn’t mind moving to the Premier League, hopefully to Chelsea, where he could work with Jose Mourinho or to Monaco in Ligue 1."
"There were other sides interested, such as Newcastle, but now it’s a three-horse race."
