Impressive by Roma. They concede an average of 11.9 shots a game, so I guess it's de Sanctis doing the majority of the hard work.

Well, I'm definitely amazed by Roma and Morgan de Sanctis, too. And about AC Milan... you obviously have some work lined up.

Hm. Even Bayern in their record season 2012/13 already conceded 4 goals at Matchday 10. (In the end they set an all-time BL record with 18 goals against in 34 matches). Juve who were pretty convincing that season, too, were at 5 goals against. So AS Roma really looks like something currently!

Re: Return of the Top Defenses of the Top 5 Leagues 2013-2014 (stats)
Well Roma have lost Leandro Castan for the Torino game at the weekend. This means Nico Burdisso will step in as his replacement most likely.
Let's see how this affects our defensive record. Burdisso can be a little crazy with his defending at times.

Re: Return of the Top Defenses of the Top 5 Leagues 2013-2014 (stats)
I'm not so sure. Jed is indeed a good defensive prospect, but the chances of us hitting the defensive lottery a 2nd year running are slim. Marquinhos is THAT rare a talent.
I prefer we give Burdisso the chance to prove he's capable of stepping into such a great backline and keeping things calm back there with Benatia.
Jed will get his chances this season.

True. He will play in the Coppa Italia (when is that anyway=?)
Also, DDR as a CB is also an option.

Ehhhh we should stay away from using DDR as a CB when we have players in the first team that can step into that role.
Next fixture of Coppa Italia matches kickoff on December 4th. Roma aren't in any of those though.

I believe this is Lille 8th game in a row without conceding a goal. I knew Monaco was going to lose this game. At most I suspected they may actually score, but Lille defence proves to be pretty hard to bypass atm.

Lille got lucky... Monaco (and Falcao) missed 4 sitters and a one-on-one. Kudos to the keeper, but that defense is not that great. The keeper is on fire...

There was a valid PK claim I believe. Yeah thats what I meant the keeper has been in good form.sportsczy wrote:Lille got lucky... Monaco (and Falcao) missed 4 sitters and a one-on-one. Kudos to the keeper, but that defense is not that great. The keeper is on fire...

Tough, tough Toro match, that was.
We lost Benatia to not only suspension, but now injury and had to play DDR at CB after all.
That's going to cause some ripples throughout our backline. The floodgates aren't going to open exactly, but I don't think we'll remain at the top for much longer.

Re: Return of the Top Defenses of the Top 5 Leagues 2013-2014 (stats)
Since Castan will be back from suspension, it's likely to be him and Burdisso as CBs against Sassuolo and onward until Benatia returns. Burdisso got a lot of shtick for his performance last weekend, but I thought he did fine. Benatia actually looked a bit worse and it's likely because that partnership hasn't had a lot of time to gell. Burdisso-Castan do have a bit more chemistry from last season so I expect that we'll look more solid this next game.Forza wrote:So who will replace Benatia?
