I actually liked that the season 1 ending, was an ending that didn't wrap everything up in a nice little bow. In that sense it made it that much more realistic, since there's hardly ever a case that is solves the way it's portrayed in a lot of crime shows. I also didn't think their relationship was ever great, but at the end they just realized they only really have eachother.

Also Brad Pitt's worst role was in 12 years a slave, I have never in my life seen a more miscast role in my life, it's on the level of a Tarantino cameo without charm and humour, and looked like he just wanted to put himself in the movie.

lol I chose not to watch 12 years a slave because I knew I wouldn't be able to stand Pitt. What a terrible idea.

I only made it through Tree of Life dozing, coming down from pills, after I had tried 3 times in a sober state.

As for what you say you like about TD, well that's exactly what I liked too, but for me it lost most of that in the end.

Because I love crime stories that are slow burning, where little things matter.
So in the beginning I was gripped and emotionally involved by simply the two of them finding that one twig cult scuplture, which is about the only lead they find in the first episode.
That's great. The show managed to grip you through atmosphere, character, detail of the case, by the world it takes place, by the twist of present/past narrations, while the actual police work was depicted as slow and not immediately fruitful.

In the end for me it all goes much too fast and too smooth, I would have even preferred if they didn't really solve that much at all.

Brad Pitt is an amazing actor. He carried Benjamin Button, stole the show and should have won an Oscar on 12 Monkeys, did superb acting on Se7en, elevated Moneyball with his performance, was absolutely rivetting in Fight Club, seriously I could go on and on with Jesse James, Inglorious Basterds, Burn After Reading etc. Far from what Hans is saying an absolute shit actor.

lol Brad Pitts acting in 12 monkey is the single most ridiculous overacting I have ever seen in a high level production.

That's why I wrote, his idea of playing a schizophrenic is scratching wildly an making funny faces.

Guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

Yeah I agree, he's overacting way too much in 12 Monkeys, I can see that after having rewatched it some weeks ago. He simply does not have the ability to play a larger than life character and still get away with it without overacting. This is why Daniel Day Lewis is so great, his performances in Gangs and The Will Be Blood are examples of how you can play a larger than life character without overacting, even though it might be close on a few occasions, mainly in the last act of There Will Be Blood.
Brad Pitt is not amazing though, Fassbender is Amazing, Tom Hardy is Amazing, Christian Bale is amazing, Matthew McConaughey is amazing. I don't think Brad Pitt is close to those guys in any way.

agree.
For me too, both Day Lewis in There Will Be Blood and McConaughey in TD walk a very fine line in terms of overacting, they are always on the verge but pull it off.
I generally like more subdued performances though, so I guess that's my taste and about taste we can't argue.
For me the most amazing performance in TD is Harrelsons anyway.

Finally managed to finish the season, loved the first 6 episodes but was a bit meh for the last 2. I think for me it needed a twist or atleast explain some things better than they did, and yes I understand it was about Rust and Marty solving the mystery, how it affected them and in that regard they did great. Loved the characters Rust, Marty, Maggie, dialogue was fantastic, some great quotes and acting. Definitely not a top 3-5 show so far in humble opinion but very good TV still.

Colin Farrell is in talks to star in the second season of HBO's “True Detective,” an individual familiar with the series told TheWrap, while Taylor Kitsch is also the leading candidate for the younger male lead.

People hate on Farrell but they've probably only seen his terrible roles, similar to Mcconaughey pre-2010. No idea how legit those rumors are, but I think they'd make a good duo.

Rumours are pretty legit tbh. Jeff Sneider from The Wrap has broken some legit big stories as of late. And he's reporting Kitsch and Farrell, so I'd trust it.

Also RG, you've probably only seen Farrell in Alexander hmm Which is horrible movie for all involved, and it shouldn't be used as an example of the quality of the actors.
Farrell is amazing in most of his stuff as of late. Kitsch has been great for a long time in, Friday Night Lights, Lone Survivor and The Normal Heart. I expect great things from this duo, if they're confirmed. Next lead to be cast is a female. Would expect a mexican/black woman to be cast tbh hmm

He was great in In Bruges, which is kinda of a comedy but really serious, and humorous in a dark kind of way. He also received a lot of oscar buzz, for his role in Saving Mr Banks.

The Other Cops? what the hell is that...

Looking at Collin Farrell movies. These are the ones I've seen

Minority Report
Daredevil

And I don't remember him much in those movies lol. But then I never saw any McConaughey movies either.

Looking forward to it now as at least Will Ferrell is not in it Laughing
