Who is this Jackson Martinez?
there are reports claiming that napoli are seriously thinking about purchasing martinez for 40 million euro. for someone, aged 26, with only one good season under belt, this is a huge amount. i don't know if he is worth that amount. if higuain is worth 37 million, then no one should pay anything more than 25 million for him. someone please enlighten me.

Well, Dortmund allegedly were interested in him, too, but didn't like to pay fantasy prices for him. So if Kloppo thinks he might be an interesting subject, he can't be that bad ^^

One good goalscoring season nowadays seems to be enough for players to be priced really high.
Consistency doesn't seem to matter.

Ill be honest, never seen this guy play but he gets sooo much hype.
Anyone tell me what sort of forward he is? looks the powerful Drogba type from first impressions.

Well considering it was his first season in Europe and he did quite well and Porto are Transfer Market Connoisseurs and everybody knows that their are lots of players who have inflated values for players who aren't that great , you'd expect a high price really.
OT : Yes, he's priced too high but he is quite talented if you ask me. He's not exactly close to the Drogba mould if you ask me. He's a great finisher with both feet , extremely quick ( likes to be on the shoulder of the last defender in an attempt to beat the offside trap), a great header of the ball, loves service and likes to be fed (occasionally he can create on his own though) and can score a great goal now and again.( He scored an amazing goal against Sporting this season) He's more of an out & out striker if you ask me.
I don't really see him as someone who is a great linker of the play though and he isn't that great of a dribbler either.
I think he can do even better things with a team that can give him more and better service. He is a striker who relies on his anticipation to get him in good goal scoring positions, technique and pace to score goals.

I wouldn't be surprised if he has one of those dodgy clauses in his contract.

Re: Who is this Jackson Martinez?
i can judge by the reaction of you guys, he is a bit over-hyped. 40 million is way too much. napoli should look for someone like sanchez. he knows serie a , and available for 20 million. de la should invest the remaining amount on verratti. at least i would have done so.

Don't you think Bale's the best player in the league?

He's only good at headers. He's already 25+ years old he isn't worth anything over 20M.

I saw him many times in the Mexican league, good player, but he's not worth that amount i think. He's overpriced because he comes from Porto.

Re: Who is this Jackson Martinez?
Overpriced, he might be, slightly. But not in any way overrated. He's done well for club and country recently and he's a great finisher. Possibly even improving. His scoutnation video gives you a good impression of his style in the sense that they capture his most typical finishes and they are very good.

Haven't seen much of Jackson Martinez, but a lot of people said the same thing about Falcao when he was at Porto...

Very true and he even has a better goalscoring record than Falcao in season 1.
He isnt as good as Falcao by any means, but better teams than Porto have worse strikers than him.

Jackson Martinez rejects Milan to fulfill his dream of playing in Spain. Will sign with Atletico Madrid for 5 seasons.

Re: Who is this Jackson Martinez?
actually, that's the knock on Jackson Martinez: He's not a great finisher. He does well with Porto because competition is a bit iffy... but, until this year, he was downright horrible in terms of efficiency in Europe, whether CL or Europa. He did pretty well this year though so he may have turned a corner.
Turning 29 in October so it's very surprising that people are paying this much for him. He's on the downside of his prime right now There's no upside and/or resell value.

Re: Who is this Jackson Martinez?
this is just another example of how the quality of strikers declined over the years .
remember a guy named Mario Jardel ? the porto striker who scored at a Ronaldesque ratio in the Portuguese league and finished top scorer in the CL ?
there was so many options in the market that nobody gave much of a crap about him .
fast forward some 15 years later and Europe is going crazy for a generic 29 year old donkey .

Re: Who is this Jackson Martinez?
Jardel wasn't a scrub mate, he scored 34 or more goals in 7 straight seasons. That ain't a generic donkey striker. He declined when he turned 30 like most strikers do, but not even close to being a donkey.

Eh, that was his point, dude. That Jardel was decent, but because there were many more good strikers around, he didn't attract interest.
Clubs are now interested in Martinez, because there aren't that many top class strikers around.

Re: Who is this Jackson Martinez?
His finishing is his best quality He's great in the air and very sharp in one on one opportunities. My problem is that he is too limited of a player to be worth 35m. Sure, he can hold the ball up and play quick one-twos and he is extremely quick, but for 35m you should be looking for a game changer, unless it's really just goals you need. I feel someone like Dzeko, who I also think is underrated, is very similar, just not as good in the air or speed wise.

Scolari snubbing him for the World Cup hit him hard too. But I do agree with lack of quality CFs compared to a few years ago. There are a lot more inside forwards and CAMs now.

Re: Who is this Jackson Martinez?
Better fit than Mandzukic for Atletico though, as he is good in the air and quick enough to play on the counter (although much worse with the ball than Falcao or Costa were).
