Mangala would be fantastic IMO, would cost a pretty penny though.

I dont think we are going to pay how much it would cost for Porto to say yes, because for that money (40m) we would have already signed someone else by now.

The only hope I see is Mangala insisting he wants to go. He rejected Monaco apperently and therefore Porto were happy to keep him despite a reported 40 or 45m bid.

If it somehow comes together, I will be happy.

His 7 set peice goals last season alone gives you hope of helping us in both boxes lol

After selling Thiago and with Xavi's clear decline I would not sell Cesc unless a ridiculous offer comes up and we have Oliver Torresor Gundogan lined up.With zubi it would be impossible to replace him well and in time...

I'm warming up to the idea of not signing a CB and instead signing someone in December, provided he can still play the CL. Given that they wouldn't join us for pre season the benefit of signing them on the summer is greatly reduced. And if we can get into a quality player's head and make them request a transfer over the next 3 months then that is preferable to signing a scrub. Only thing is that its unlikely such a player would not play in the CL, and most non CL teams are selling teams so why not get one now?

Why wouldn't you just drop 15-20 mil and get Sakho instead of a ridiculous 40+ for Mangala???? I like Mangala a lot. But he's not that good yet. You can always pay 40+ mil once he proves himself up to be near as good as Silva

It's more Barca hating PSG than the other way around... PSG aren't going to do Barca any favors; but they would do business. Rosell is the one that was butthurt over Silva.

But rumors are the Barca has offered 15 mil for Sakho and PSG want an extra 5 of bonuses added to it.

You know I rate Mangala also, but I agree. Mangala is good, but not twice Sakho.

The problem with this idea to me is we need the other CB for the CL most of all.

In the league games against the relative small teams, Mascherano or Bartra or some B team defender should probably cope.

But its the big CL games, or Classico's, that we cant roll out with them because they will be exposed badly. And its not like Puyol will be around to play.

So which defenders will be available? Not even Martinez.

good news...if we really want him, i dont see others have a chance

It's so infuriating that even though Sakho is available and we could likely get him without too much difficulty we are not showing much interest and have sort of decided not to purchase a center back this summer.

I have to to be honest, I'm beginning to hate this TATA guy already. Its believed he even advised Rossell and co not to overspend on a CB. Does he think this money is coming out of his salary/ potentially future salary? Ofc Rossell will always go for the financial option, he doesnt know anything about football.

I dont know if Sakho is the perfect guy for us or not, but I find it incredibly hard to believe he isnt worth 15-20m for us and there is no convincing me we dont need a CB.


edit: Oh *bleep* off Tata..we are not covered...all but 2 of those options are shit and the one "your waiting for" wont last 2-3 months without getting hurt again.

Why we didn't go for Kolo Toure on a free transfer? can't think of a better option quality price. Fast, good in the air, strong not bad in the ball... yeah he is old but on a free and for one or two seasons... idiotic.

League? we won't have big problems in the league, we'll still outscore all Spanish opponents like we did last season. The problem is against the big teams in the UCL.

We have to defend better as a team, and improve the pressing! Remember in 2011, we played most of the games with Pique and Masche as CBs, but the pressing was great!

Waiting until January and taking more time to get the right CB, might not be a bad idea, feb-may (ucl knockout stages) is where we need a new defender the most!

In other words, overspending now (40+M) on a player like Mangala who could flop is not a good idea!

I agree with you Khaled. No point in overspending now. Also, the fact that we are publicly not desperate to buy a CB might make negotiations easier

Well hopefully it won't take him long to realize that we really do need one. Zubi should make his ground and make the case that a CB is a priority. That's what the role of a sporting director is ffs.
