Nothing at Ford Field or the Pontiac Silverdome ffs. Missed opportunities
Oh well, we got a good roster for this at least. LD, Holden and Jack McInerney are the ones to watch for USA.

I don't think Michigan is known for its love for USMNT.. last time they held a Gold Cup match (against Canada) it was emptier than Arsenal's trophycase in the last 6 years.

I fixed it for you.
Nice to see they allowed Shea to replace Gatt on the roster.
I am hoping that the magic that was the second half against Guatemala is a sign of things to come regarding the chemistry between: Shea, Mix, Holden, Beasley, and Donovan.
Still not a fan of the quarterfinal roster rule, but CONCACAF has always been

Mexico playing like crap, and are fielding a B team for this tourney since their A team was just in the Confeds. So this tourney should be a walk in the park for USA

Canada hoof ball tactics....are players are so lazy, the lack of movement off the ball is awful, when the back line has the ball the gap between the midfield and defence is huge so they just hoof it up, fully confident are womens team could beat the mens side, Sinclair>>>all mens players

Could be a good chance for some of the middling sides to make a run at some international silverware with the major powers using this as a chance to blood youngsters and give fringe squad players an opportunity.

Actually, most teams are bringing there A team and resting select players. So they have a healthy mix of experience and new blood. Mexico on the other hand is legit only bringing it's B players since they were just in Brazil for the Confeds. Not making an excuse for Mexico, A team or B team, doesn't matter with them they have been awful all year.

Re: The Official 2013 Gold Cup Thread
Donovan, Holden, Shea, Beasley, Gomez, Onyewu, Ashe, Beckerman, Bruin, Wondolowski
Like I said, those are the USA's regular's that are called up under Klinsman from time to time...hence that's an A team with the rest being some "B teamers". Mexico has zero first teamers in this squad since they were all just at the Confeds (only Jiminez, but the Confeds was his first call up so he is new as hell)

Re: The Official 2013 Gold Cup Thread
Except they're not. You've got it backwards. Only one or two of those names are actually A teamers (Beasley, Gomez) at this point, and the rest are B team members. "From time to time" is not the same thing as a "regular" and is basically the very definition of an international B-team player.
Donovan went on sabbatical and was out of the game entirely for several months; effectively also putting him back at the beginnings in terms of earning his international place. He's not a first choice for Klinsmann at the moment, so not an A teamer.
Holden's been injured and unable to play for close to 3 years now.
Onyewu hasn't been a regular for the national side in a while either after his struggles with injury and form.
Shea, Beckerman, and others are at best second string for the national team (aka B team).
Wondolowski and the others have less than 20 caps between them.

Re: The Official 2013 Gold Cup Thread
right, but even if they arent regulars now, they have been at one point or another. Theres some World Cup experience in there too. Mexico literally has a few guys that were on the Olympic squad, but aren't ever called up for the first team. Even though some of the guys that are on this squad were on the Olympic squad, they weren't even guaranteed first teamers there either. Matter of fact this Mexico team at this Gold Cup doesn't even make the bench for el Tri, not now or ever. Big difference comparing that what USA's "B" team is. If it was a true B team, they wouldn't of brought the guys I mentioned
Please, don't try to compare the two squads. The USA team is allot of of an A squad mixed with a B while Mexico is full B.
Like I said, even if it was Mexico's A, they are playing like crap so they would of probably lost regardless lol

The entire bold are not even regular starters. I think you don't know what an A team is. Are you saying we beat Germanies A team a while back in a friendly? Mixing A team players with most B/C teamers doesn't equal an A team. Did you take any math classes? If so read this http://www.mathsisfun.com/definitions/mode.html and use ABCs instead to figure out if it's an A/B/C team. Having Depth doesn't equate to an A team either.

Re: The Official 2013 Gold Cup Thread
maybe i should rephrase.
A team, B team...doesn't matter. What I was going by was how often they get capped, especially under the Klinsman era. Even if it's just sitting on the bench. USA has allot of experience, and been experienced at one point or another by Klinsman.
Mexico, on the other hand does not. That was my point, the two teams are not comparable in terms of saying they are both fielding similar type "B" teams. That was my only point. As mentioned, USA will walk this as Mexico, it's biggest threat, is playing like complete donkey ass (A team, B team, C team - whatever they are all playing horrible this calendar year)

Simple. Mexico doesn't have depth to feature a good B team. They called their younglings/Best domestic players that haven't been giving a chance and have giving their A squad players a rest. Like the USA, the only player that's on this squad and played in the last WCQs was Beasely. That isn't close to an A team. Same with Costa Rica who brought like 3 regular players and panama basically brought a squad like Mexico. It's not that you needed to rephrase, it's just you clearly didn't know what the definition of A/B/C squads are. You could call mexico a C squad in terms of Quality but you're not going to get a much better squad excluding players from original WCQ squad which exposes Mexico's lack of depth.

Re: The Official 2013 Gold Cup Thread
wtf are you taking about? I never said Mexico is fielding a C squad. And Mexico's "lack of depth", beat Brazil in the final of the Olympics recently. They also won the U-17 World Cup and finished 3rd at the U-20 World Cup. I wouldn't blame them on having "lack of depth", as much as I am accusing them of having horrible management. Chepo has to go if this team is to get any better.

Winning a youth tourney doesn't prove you have depth. You think that team does any better against grown men in this tourney? We already know winning youth tournaments don't translate to Senior success if you look at recent history. I mean seriously since when does winning a tournament that only factors a certain age group mean anything at an international senior level? And I said that Mexico's team right now is a C squad in terms of quality.
