Liverpool target Mamadou Sakho has 'heart set' on AC Milan move

LIVERPOOL could be set to be disappointed in their hunt for Paris-Saint Germain's Mamadou Sakho despite being frontrunners for his signature.

The powerful 23-year-old defender has been attracting interest from the Reds as well as Serie A giants AC Milan, whom he would prefer to join.

While Brendan Rodgers has brought in Kolo Toure this summer, he is still keen to strengthen his rearguard following Jamie Carragher's retirement last term.

PSG coach Laurent Blanc recently admitted that Sakho expressed his desire to leave the club.

"It is true that Mamadou expressed his desire to find a new club," he told reporters.

"The position of the club is clear. Until September 2, the situation will evolve; there will be time to find a solution that suits both parties."

Reports surfacing on the continent indicate that while Liverpool are firmly interested in him, Sakho appears to have his heart set on a move to Milan.

Sako became increasingly unsettled in the French capital last season, after Thiago Silva and Alex were the first choice centre-backs last season.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are set to miss out on £30m rated Willian, who appears to be Spurs bound.

Italian outfit AC Milan are reportedly preparing a move for Ajax midfielder Christian Eriksen.

The 21-year-old, who is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in European football, has been linked with Premier League duo Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

Liverpool have been tracking the 21-year-old Hellas Verona star for the past few months, but they face competition for his signature from within Italy with Serie A giants Milan and Fiorentina also keen.

Milan are thought to have accelerated their interest in the last few weeks, although his representative Joao Santos says the San Siro club are yet to produce a formal offer to Verona.

He told TuttoMercatoWeb: "There has been contact, it's true. But Milan has not made a deal with Hellas Verona. Contact only, but nothing concrete.

"Jorginho would be good not only for Milan, but for all the teams who have followed him. He wants to play for Verona first of all."

Brazil-born Jorginho, who has appeared for Italy's Under-21 side, helped Verona secure promotion from Serie B last term and is preparing for his first campaign in Italy's top-flight.

Cagliari have turned down a bid from AC Milan for central defender Davide Astori, it has been revealed.

The Italian international was a former youth product at the San Siro but never managed to make a breakthrough and was eventually sold on.

Olivier Yenge, agent of AC Milan midfielder Bakaye Traore, has revealed that the player could leave the club this summer if he receives the right offer.

The 28-year-old, who signed a three-year contract with the Rossoneri last year after joining from Nancy, has reportedly been linked with a move to Belgian side Anderlecht in recent weeks.

Yenge spoke to MilanNews.it about his client’s future and admitted that he hasn’t received any serious offers yet.

“No conditions have been specified for Bakaye Traore,” said the agent of the Mali international.

“If he wants to go, he can do it.

“At the moment, we want to monitor all situations and as soon as the right opportunity arises we can go.

“For now, though, we don’t have anything concrete.”

Traore has yet to make an impact at Milan and made only seven Serie A appearances for the club last season, with just one of them coming as a starter.

CSKA Moscow coach Leonid Slutsky has admitted that Keisuke Honda may not be joining AC Milan before the transfer window closes.

The 27-year-old is expected to join the Italian side during the next transfer window in January 2014, but reports throughout the summer have claimed that the Rossoneri were pushing to buy the player sooner, though both sides have been pretty quiet on the matter.

Slutsky spoke to Sport-Express and revealed that the Japanese international could be staying put at CSKA Moscow due to the start of Champions League and regular season play.

“For all I know, the player will remain here during this market session,” said the tactician.

“AC Milan, among other sides, have already started to play in the Champions League.

“At this point, I think it’s unlikely that Honda will leave us.”

With time on his current contract running out, Honda has recently made it known that he has wishes to leave the Russian club for a bigger team, and Milan have been the frontrunners in landing his signature

A Galaxy forward Landon Donovan has emerged as a potential transfer target for Serie A giants AC Milan.

MLSsoccer.com American Exports reporter Greg Seltzer revealed that Donovan is courting interest from three Italian clubs, including Milan, and hinted that the USMNT captain could be bidding ‘arrivederci’ to Major League Soccer for another spell in Europe.

Writing on his No Short Corners blog Seltzer claims the Rossoneri side are keen to bring the 31-year-old aboard at the San Siro but would prefer to complete a deal before the summer transfer window closes due to the impending January arrival of Japan attacker Keisuke Honda from CSKA Moscow.

The deal appears to be a short-term loan that would allow Donovan to stay fit during the MLS off-season, which begins in October, and would parallel his three previous stints at Bayern Munich in 2009 and Everton in 2010 and 2012.

However, the deal hinges on Milan making it past PSV Eindhoven and into the Champions League group stage after their 1-1 draw in the play-off first leg, with Seltzer revealing that Serie A trio Genoa, Sassulo and Hellas Verona are also keen for the Californian to join their ranks.

AC Milan and Genoa have completed a deal that will Valter Birsa join the Rossoneri, with midfielder Bakaye Traore moving to the Grifone.

Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani and Genoa president Enrico Preziosi met on Thursday night and it appears as though the two sides are set to conclude another deal between the two clubs.

Gianlucadimarzio reports that the Milan midfielder has finally secured his exit from the San Siro after a season largely spent on the sidelines after last summer’s move from Nancy.

The 28-year-old will join Fabio Liverani’s squad ahead of the weekend’s opening matches with Birsa, who spent last season on loan at Torino, joining the Diavolo.

Traore only made nine appearances in all competitions for the Milan club after joining on a free transfer, while Birsa made 17 appearances for Torino last season.
