Not true.

VDB is making some regressive choices tactically, squad wise, almost everything, but he is a very important element of what they have been able to accomplish.

He is working with a intelligent and talented group - and in spite of a range of challenges over the past couple of years he's created a squad with a unique harmony, forced players to grow up, put aside their differences and personal ambitions and play (or cheer on) their teammates in whatever role required of them.

And I'd say it's paid off.

Varane started 30 games this year - Zidane (the man who pushed for his transfer) is about to take on a significantly larger role at the club and is likely going to be in charge of squad building. His biggest threat is a declining Pepe.

The thing that does disturb me, these guys were here to replace Pique/Puyol/Masch at some time - they are all leaving now and we dont even have anybody to replace Pique/Puyol, let alone replacing the replacers

I'm very skeptical about everything - we'd probably be interested but Barca can kill this very quickly. Been with the club 10 years or so - Xavi is 33 and might retire soon - and at the very least is due for a reduction in minutes.

All they have to do is probably assure him he is ahead of Cesc for Xavi's role - and give him some decent money and I think he will stay where he is.

they cant assure him of that. Cesc is like an endangered species that needs to be protected, he needs to succeed, so he is a priority ahead of Thiago. and if Xavi is rested and fit, i would like to know how many games a year he wont play because young thiago needs gametime...would love to watch the coach telling him "you aint playing bro, young kid needs time" never happens dude
