@philmcnulty: Disappointment here at White Hart Lane as it is confirmed Arsenal have won at Newcastle & beat Spurs to the Champions League place.

I think Cazorla is overall the best player over the past season. (Didn't have a great game today though.) Koscielny would definitely be his closest competition IMO but his long spell on the bench makes him less impactful. But whatta player Kos has turned out to be for us!
By the way, I wrote this a few days ago here (about the Newcastle match): "If I were a betting man, I'd wager Arsenal will win the match ... but it's going to be a nailbiter. It will not be an easy match for us to watch, from the first minute to the last we'll be cringing and sweating." Ha! Yup, true for me at least! Surely not the only one.

Re: Newcastle United 0 - 1 Arsenal: 4th Place Trophy Secured
Tottenham yet again providing us the anaesthetic with which we can keep ourselves comfortably numb in a state of ongoing mediocrity. We have to improve this squad now, not sit back and admire beating spurs to the champions league. If we are not competing for the title next year I honestly don't care about this result.

Honestly I find that picture quite embarrassing. I must be living in the past when 4th place was not deemed a fantabulous achievement

Different circumstances.
Had we been challenging for the title and finished 2nd. We and the team would be gutted.
We were atrocious from August till the Spurs away game. From there ( 7 points behind spurs ) to finish 4th ( 5 points behind 2nd place ), i think the team deserves a bit more.

I see where you're coming from about it being a bare minimum achievement, but the way we've done it is something to be proud and happy about, at least from the players' perspective. Very few people thought they would finish in the top four after the Spurs defeat, but they put together a great run and clawed their way back.
So I think we can allow people to be happy.

That remains to be seen. Just looking at their jubilation, it's too much imo, it seems like mentally 4th place has well and truly become our teams mantra.
If we actually do use this as a stepping stone for better things then I will be as happy as anyone.

I am sure it is a stepping stone. Something tells me this summer will be different.

Re: Newcastle United 0 - 1 Arsenal: 4th Place Trophy Secured
Come on, look how many players we have lost over the last few seasons. They deserve to celebrate for stepping up and setting a corner stone for the future. They could have easily faultered and fell to mid table and they would have had all the excuses in the world to justify it.Diego Armando Maradona wrote:Honestly I find that picture quite embarrassing. But now based on results, its like we haven't lost anyone. And from what I understand we aren't going to be loosing any big pieces this summer. No one is going to hold the team hostage and ruin any momentum for us going into next season. For the first time in a while we can go into the summer without looking like a sinking ship that needs saving. We actually finished better this season without player of the year top scorer van persie and that is a great accomplishment.
Now we can finally move forward and BUILD. Not just rebuild. LETS DO THIS.

All the previews, all the rumours, all the predictions, all the work Jay puts in on post-match threads, all the rival reports from Sina, everything, it's all been a pleasure.
No trophy, but top 4 again & an 18th successive season above Spurs.

I can think of only one way to get past Koscielny.
Probably won't work though.
