If any of you actually watched Uruguay you would study and observe that Cavani is literally being played a winger by Oscar"The Clown"Tabarez.
Its not hard to understand.
and if you actually read the previous posts you would realize that nobody said otherwise .
being deployed on the wing is not an excuse for such abysmal performances with the NT, especially since he played on the wing for two seasons in palermo when amauri was the lone striker , and did it brilliantly . playing on the wing dosen't explain why 90 % of his goals came in friendly games, or why he's prone to miss one on ones and numerous sitters . just last night he missed 3 golden opportunities against a ( defensively limited side .
Palermo he was a completely different player with another adaptive skill-set. Players evolve based on how they are trained and under Mazzari he was made to be a pure Prima-Punta. Within the Europa League he was sacrified on the wing 2-3 times to test our Edu Vargas and was nothing like his Palermo side since his game has adapted past that and structurally according to the needs of a CF.
If you do play in your natural position; it equates to utilizing positions according to your desired channels used of placements.
If he is played in his natural position, setting aside his conversion rate (which never was his strong suit) you would see him being used to his strengths which are bullying oppositions from a direct-on attack, movement coming directly by leading the line freedom to exploit the wide spaces on choice rather than restriction.

Re: The Official Confederations Cup thread
Him playing as a winger has no bearing on missing the 2 1v1 (in the middle of the box) he had against the Nigerian GK. Or getting outpower by the last defender and not getting a shot off on a few occasion.
The most effective thing he did was to miss the backheel flick that led to Lugano's goal.

Re: The Official Confederations Cup thread
you're absolutely right , i'm not even contesting the fact that you will get the best out of cavani by playing him in his favorite position .actually i don't even understand why tabarez chooses not to use him as a CF with suarez and forlan in support .Arquitescu wrote:farfan wrote:Arquitescu wrote:Ah the ignorance rears its ugly head again.

but i'm suspecting that there is a mental problem too . he averages 3-4 missed sitters per game with the national team , a ratio reminiscent of his 2008-2009 season .his current conversion rate with napoli is pretty respectable .

Cavani deserves criticism, yes he plays a lot as a winger but when he gets in front of the goal he is just shit too, he could have scored about 2 goals yesterday

Is it really irrelevant though? everyone knows what Cavani does in Serie A and CL and that's all that matters when talking about the player and whether he's worth the money for clubs to sign him.
What he does in international football isn't really relevant to that, its not like he's the only WC player who has struggled on international level.
Messi and CR were crap for years, heck even Robben and Ribery have flattered to deceive.

The very best players usually make an impact on the international stage though.
Missing easy chances like the ones yesterday makes me think he wouldn't be able to handle the pressure at a big club.

So same lineup for Brasil with a straight swap between Paulinho and Hernanes. Tasty:)

McAgger wrote:DId Tahiti have more possession against Spain than Uruguay?? If they did
If you think about it it's not really that suprising. The only reason why Spain/Barça tend to have 70%+ possession is because teams tend to play very defensive against them and that forces them to do alot of sideways passes. But when teams try to attack them, they only tend to have around 60% posssession because they have it easier to find the killer pass. And while tahiti is not a good side, they did try to attack Spain..

It's a very interesting lineup. Let's see if Hernanes can manage his defensive responsibilities.

Wasn't Hernanes a CM earlier in his career ?

Both fullbacks will be torn apart today, Balotelli will underperform, Montolivo will be found out

Re: The Official Confederations Cup thread
Can't see Italia winning this one. There is an almost unstoppable noetic momentum within the Brazil fans that will spurn on the Seleção to the point of literally being on the field with them as the 12th man. Brazil squad will feel it within their bones and Italia's lack of any support today will be felt. Not only Pirlo & De Rossi are out but there is 0 defensive presence within the midfield. Expect Brazil to attack from the get go, and never look back while Italia will be shaking in their knees.
We just don't have that strong mentality that we do in non-friendly competitions.
Congratulations Brazil.

I disagree . Drogba missed a crucial penalty for the Ivory Coast against Zambia and pretty much flopped against them . Yet later that year was pivotal in Chelsea's champions league success .
Cavani is a brilliant player who at the moment isnt scoring that many at international level . . But it could be argued that his presence has enabled Suarez to score the number of goals he has for Urguay. Cavani was bexcellent at the 2010 world cup . It could be the pressure but I think its more to do with the fatigue . His performances will improve . He's a quality player and any team would be much improved with him in it .

Re: The Official Confederations Cup thread
Drogba scored 60 goals in 95 caps for Cote D'ivoire. Not sure how missing a crucial penalty in one game makes him equivalent to Cavani.

Neymar what a d*ckhead, can't handle the pressure from the Italian defenders so he vented his frustration on Abate and successfully injured him..

seriosuly?abate injured his shoulder while falling, the foul was completely normal.dronte wrote:Neymar what a d*ckhead, can't handle the pressure from the Italian defenders so he vented his frustration on Abate and successfully injured him..
Anyway,Arq, no way in hell Italy arent taking this game seriosuly.I mean, 9 players behind the ball ffs.
This is reminding me a lot of Germany vs Italy at the Euro, only difference is that we have a DM and CBs.

Same Drogba that failed an Afcon cup with the best team in Africa . While Cavani won the Copa with Uruguay . I also think his contribution to Suarez and Forlans performances is being underestimated . Anyone who watched him at the 2010 world cup knows he can very well for his national team . He's just going through a bad period
