Should pens count toward the golden boot?

I'm personally of the opinion that the golden boot should be won for the most goals scored from open play, not the best penalty taker/stat padder. I realize it's a skill, but it's a very different one from scoring in open play. The two should not necessarily be lumped under one umbrella. Just my two cents...

You're correct, those are not stat-padding. Thanks for latching onto that one phrase and making it the focus of the conversation. Razz

However, the argument still applies. Free-kicks and penalties are both a very different skill from open-play scoring. Perhaps it's dumb, but it's a bit of a pet-peeve of mine that some strikers get a leg up in what is billed as a sub-competition within leagues/tournaments because they are the penalty or set-piece taker.

If you can't be arsed to speak clearly then don't get upset when someone catches you on your inconsistencies. Wink

I have no problem with goals scored directly from freekicks counting. Are they really any different from a header from a corner or scoring indirectly from a freekick? What about a striker that scores from a keeper's parry after a penalty or freekick?

But if I didn't win it, Bale had to.

RvP had a mega goal drought, even though he was sublime for United, you can't go like 10 games without a goal as a striker and be called POTY.

suarez is an idiot and ruins his own talent with his reckless antics. Even if he was sitting on 35 goals when he done that, he would have probably not been given the award.

Bale was instrumental to spurs and never had a noticable dip in form like RvP.
