Re: Ramsey deserves more respect!
I'm not Ramsey's biggest fan right now, if I'm honest. Bizarrely, this has nothing to do with Ramsey per se - more to do with the fact Wenger has got him playing every role, bar the one he was initially bought for.
When Ramsey is playing as a wide attacker, if find myself cursing left right and centre. But it's actually the fault of that idiot Wenger who's ruining Ramsey.
I agree with Raptor - Ramsey is average! I don't want to hear about 'potential' and 'promise', Ramsey is straight up average.

Re: Ramsey deserves more respect!
nice post..GoonerJay29 wrote:The problem is that there are better players than Ramsey that play in his preferred position - Arteta, Wilshere, Cazorla and Rosicky - so it's hard to give him the necessary time to really find form in central midfield. Although playing on the flank or filling in at right back is far from ideal for a developing player, some time is better than no time. Bare in mind he got plenty of chances last season to stake a claim for a regular first team spot.
I don't agree we just throw him into any role that needs filling because there's been games where he's been selected over Chamberlain/Gervais/Podolski to play on the flank. He's only played right back twice: once when we had a player sent off and yesterday when Wenger wanted to get an extra midfielder on.
Recently, he has started games in central midfield and he played there mostly against Sunderland and against Spurs. He might pop on the flanks sometimes because our midfield likes to change positions when Cazorla comes in off the left flank. He's done well in recent games and although he still has a problem with lingering on the ball a bit too long, he has simplified his game so he isn't losing the ball as often as used to. If he keeps working hard and develops the defensive side of his game a bit more he could replace Arteta in this team. Failing that, becoming an well-rounded player that can fill in for multiple positions would be very useful.
It is not like Wenger plays Ramsey out of position and destroys him.. But he is giving him more chances and playtime realising his potential.. This will only do him good..

Re: Ramsey deserves more respect!
Kind of reminds me of the situation Marchisio was in a few years back, his adaptability and jack of all trades qualities saw him shunted left right and centre and for the most par made him a better all round player once he did move centrally. Granted Marchisio is a better defender than Ramsey is but that comes with game time, and it doesn't help that for the most part of the season Arsenal as a whole haven't defended effectively as a unit (the Bayern game obviously shows what a difference it makes)
As for the tactical switches where Rambo has played RB, particularly against Tottenham, that will only serve to increase his defensive awareness. Seeing the way the game panned out it was a logical choice imo and saw a slight change in shape that might almost be likened to the role Asamoah, a natural CM, plays for Juve and led to the creation of his chance on goal.
Either way I see him slowly playing in Arteta's role and hopefully bringing in some improved defensive qualities to to make him a better rounded player

Re: Ramsey deserves more respect!
He's good for squad depth right now and his work rate is second to none so with time it should come but not at the expense of us winning. If he must go out on loan for consistent playing time then so be it but he has too much potential to be judged based on these performances as they do indicate improvement.

Re: Ramsey deserves more respect!
Definitely good enough to play for us.
Think it took a lot, and i mean a lot of time for him to get back from his injury. Before his injury, people said he would be better than Wilshere. Also he was an understudy to Cesc Fabregas who was a World Class player.
When he returned, he was thrown in instantly. Like last season where he played over 40 games with immense pressure on his shoulders to be like cesc. People often forget how young he is.
I am not sure how good he will become, but he is good enough for us. As a squad player even, he isn't shit as people say.

Re: Ramsey deserves more respect!
unless he improves his shooting, passing and decision making he will only ever be good enough to be a squad player. he is good enough for arsenal that is for sure but not as a starter ATM. we need a top CM/dm in the summer.

You know what would be great, is if Ramsey knicks the ball off RvP and scores the winning goal that gives Arsenal the title in a match at Old Trafford next year. And Wenger would saunter onto the field afterwards like, "U mad? Come at me bro." Virtually nothing I can think of in sports would make me happier than that scenario.

What would make that even better is if Cesc comes home and wins the league.

Re: Ramsey deserves more respect!
Touché! Maybe after Ramsey tackles the ball off RvP, he can play the sweetest of one-twos with Fabregas en route to lobbing De Gea from 20 yards out.
It will happen.

Re: Ramsey deserves more respect!
Great player, no coincidence at all that since Vermealen and Wilshere have been out of the side in favour of Mertesacker and Ramsey that your defence has improved drastically.
Wilshere and Vermealen are both very talented but both lack defensive awareness and positioning leading to massive holes in their positions that other players have to plug.
Luckily for Wilshere he is young and there is an alternative for his offensive ability to shine ahead of Ramsey and Arteta in the AM position which is probably the best balance for all concerned.
Vermealen not so much.

Re: Ramsey deserves more respect!
Ramsey has certainly won the fans back over, though it could be argued that he should never have lost them. He's a different player since coming back from injury and I think it's taken some time for the fans to change their expectations for him.
Before, we knew him as a promising young playmaker who was very similar to Cesc in style, and we expected him to continue like that when he recovered from his injury. For one reason or another, though, he couldn't reclaim that speed of thought and therefore couldn't succeed as the team's main creative outlet. Naturally, fans got frustrated with him.
What most didn't see though was that Ramsey's attitude was always great and that he never stopped working for the team. Even when played on the wing or at full back, his attitude didn't change. Now that he's been put into a role that makes the most of those qualities, fans have started to appreciate just what he brings to the team and now think of him as a different player. Less people are expecting him to play a defence splitting pass or control the tempo of games and are, instead, expecting him to put in a good shift and play box-to-box.
If he can start producing quality in the final third again next season, I think he'll become a top player.
Definitely agree. Wenger seems to think so, too, since he's not used Wilshere alongside Arteta that often this season. Even when he was doing well in a deeper role, Wenger always thought his future was as an attacking midfielder.
I see him at the same stage as Ramsey at this point: he can produce quality in the final third but he's too erratic.
If both can improve on those aspects...
