Re: Oldham Athletic vs. Liverpool
Would be very interesting to see who starts. Both Suarez and Sturridge are traveling with the squad. Borini absolutely NEEDS to start, and hopefully it's up top and not on the flanks.
Allen hasn't featured too much lately, so this game he should start so we can rest Lucas. Same goes with Suso and Jonjo. Gerrard needs a break, but I think we need Henderson to play this game. He needs to keep this confidence going.
In defense hopefully Coates gets the start because of the uncertainty surrounding him at the moment. But I think Rodgers will opt for Carra and Skrtel . For fullbacks, would love to see young McLaughlin get a game, he's been absolutely sublime for the reserves.

I'm not expecting an easy game, but still expecting a win.
Coates really should start and hopefully at least one of Shelvey and Suso.

I really hope that suso plays in the midfield, coates should start and Borini plays upfront. It may be that skrtel and coates start at the back.

Re: Oldham Athletic vs. Liverpool
LUIS SUAREZ THE CAPTAIN He does deserve it, but I wonder how Skrtel feels about the decision.
Jones, Wisdom, Robinson, Coates, Skrtel, Allen, Henderson, Sterling, Borini, Sturridge, Suarez (C).
Subs: Gulasci, Carragher, Shelvey, Lucas, Downing, Gerrard, Suso.

Is BR playing something here...I mean making Suarez as captain, like he is the leader for the future, by inspiration (for next 1-2 seasons) !!! clever BR

Rodgers you brilliant man you. Suarez is as good as leaving as our chances of winning the CL this season. This is a wonderful choice and indirectly telling Suarez what he can expect in the future.

Re: Oldham Athletic vs. Liverpool
I'm not happy with Suarez being made the captain here, that should have been Skrtel's armband. It's not a great idea to have your most controversial player as your captain, imo.
Well, I would have rested Suarez altogether.

Well with Spurs just losing and plenty of other PL teams getting knocked yesterday, I'm glad BR is going with a strong line up

Re: Oldham Athletic vs. Liverpool
Oldham certainly getting the benefit of the doubt from the referee in this first half... about the only call that hasn't gone their way in the yellow to the striker who drove his studs into Jones's chest.

Re: Oldham Athletic vs. Liverpool
Jones that was so easy, how could you fumble it. Also Suarez's second goal was onside. This is the 3rd goal this season that has been wrongly disallowed for us. (Suarez v Everton, Enrique v Swansea, and now this).
We started really badly. Then kind of got into the groove and then went shite again. Coates has been really poor, probably flop of the match so far along with Jones.

Let's be fair to Jones. He's been decent this season except today.

God this is pathetic. I don't even know what to say. This is what happens when you have a cocky mentality.

Re: Oldham Athletic vs. Liverpool
Oldham had lost 7 out of last 8 games in league one, but that form was enough against us
Totally unbalanced starting XI and formation
Allen was again poor despite his goal, no meaningful distribution from midfield.
And don't even get me started on Borini
£15m and £12m for these two players respectively is sounding more miserable week after week.
Coates was plain bad in defence, really failed to take his chance to impress.
Jones's howler
Appalling stuff.

BR has to get it right in the league now. Nothing other than the EL left. Squad is big enough. We are in touching distance of the new trophy of recent times.

Re: Oldham Athletic vs. Liverpool
Let's not overreact to this. Formation was good and should've been strong enough to take down this team, some players were rested and others (Allen and Sterling) were given a chance considering they haven't been playing as much lately. This is precisely what a manager should be doing against a League 1 side, and our recent games have shown us that our players can be much better than this when having a good day.
I don't know if it was the rain, the atmosphere, the cup pressure, they all went out drinking last night or whatever. Our players had a bad game - Coates and Robbo had some defensive problems, Jones was poor, our attack missed several shots they should've made, and yet we still were within 6 inches on a Gerrard shot or a close off-sides call going the other way from a draw.
ManU lost to Norwich earlier this year, Bayern lost to BATE, and we dropped a tough game to Oldham. It happens, let's move on.

Re: Oldham Athletic vs. Liverpool
I will tell you what happened Stevieg. We underestimated our opponents. We went in with the most pathetic attitude into this game.
I bet Oldham players read those comments and that just fueled a fire inside them. Cocky as f*ck, if you ask me. You could tell the players weren't in it mentality wise. Whether it was Rodgers' mistake of not having a clear game plan for this match or players just thinking they can go into this game and have a field day, I don't know. But it's everyone's fault and hopefully we learn from this, which I highly doubt.
"Daniel could make it four goals in four games that would be some achievement,” Shelvey said.
“I fancy him to do it. No disrespect to Oldham but they are from a lower division and it’s a great chance for him to make some history."
